Is it worth it to DIY?
I need to replace the front pads on my '08 G35 Sport with about 45K miles on it. The dealer's cost is $300 for pads and turning the rotors. It seems like it's probably about $80 for the OEM pads and probably another $20 or so to turn the rotors. Is it worth the $200 to have them do the work? I've done brakes in the past, but I've had some problems with squeaking on the front brakes and I'm worried that if I do the brakes myself and then have problems with squeaking in the future that my warranty will be voided for that issue.
You could do it yourself if your are a decent mechanic. You could just take the rotors to a local shop and get them turned for probaly $20 a rotor. So it would save yourself about $150 which is worth it IMO.
As long as you grease the proper areas and BED (breaking the pad in) the pad and rotor you should have no squeaking of problems. Btw you don't always have to get your rotors turned unless you are getting vibes when you hit the brake than that means they are warped, in which I would just replace them. If the pads are worn than just replace them, leave the rotors alone.
$150 saved is a good amount. If the difference was like $40 I might just say it wasn't worth the hassle but $150 is enough to sway a good amount of people.
