Brakes question

So I know very little about brakes but I'm trying to learn...
I have a 2004 G35 Coupe 5AT the brakes I have now are dying so it's time to replace them. I'm looking into new brakes but I don't want to spend over like $1,000ish are StopTech Sport Brakes any good? Why or why not? What is a good set?

Glad i read the part you know little about brakes.

Get new rotors all around from autozone and some hawk pads.

You probably think this car is allah's gift to man so maybe you'll want to splurge on slotted rotors from a vendor here. When you do that still get the hawk pads.

Keep your old rotors and get hawk pads

After clicking that link i'd be on board with buying those. Can't see them being any worse than stock. I was thinking BBK, but i'd easily consider this next go around. Mainly for looks - "Light-footed highway commuters pull to the side—this kit’s designed for hard-braking, high-temperature, competitive driving."

There are better ways to upgrade your brake system without spending the big $$ on BBK! I'm using DBA rotors and HAWK HPS pads, they work and look great. Great stopping power and almost zero brake dust. They're available on our MARKETPLACE under vendor brakes. Beats the hell out of buying autoparts store low quality brakes....Gary

What brakes to get for my 04 5AT

I have a 2004 G35 Coupe 5AT Non Brembo... Don't know much about brakes but it's time to replace my stock ones so I have a couple questions
What brakes would you guys recommend that I wouldn't need to drop 6grand on...? Need rotors, calipers and pads.
I just want to make sure I don't order brakes and then find out they won't work with my car for one reason or another

Thanks a lot guys!

Check out Wilwood brakes. I heard they were good. They use the stock master cylinder, brake lines, and are lighter. They're around $3000 for all 4 wheels. I also have non brembo and am considering getting the Wilwoods.

If you're looking for a BBK upgrade this is pretty much your cheapest option new. https://g35driver.com/forums/brakes-...-06-sedan.html

I prefer the stock brembo package, I autocross at least once a month and one road course a month and they perform just as well as the akebono especially after I upgraded to ss lines and you could get the whole setup for under 1300, my buddy just picked up a set with new rotors for 1000 shipped of the forum

You don't need to spend those giant $$ for a BBK since you're not tracking your G! Check out our MARKETPLACE under vendor brakes, they can hook you up with what you need. I love my DBA rotors and HAWK HP pads and you can run OE calipers! SEARCH the bed in process for the HAWK pads, 30% better stopping power and it takes 15 minutes....G/L

Before you chose a braking system, you have to consider what you want it to do. You have to decide how each of these is relatively important or unimportant to you: high temperature stopping power, low temperature stopping power, dust, noise, harshness on rotors.

The biggest question is what operating temperature you want it to work at.
Are you tracking the car? autocrossing the car? do you see freezing temepratures? or just a daily driver?

Why do you need new brake calipers? are your old ones not working properly? probably the cheapest is to get the stock brakes serviced, or just leave them alone if they are working properly. I would highly recommend against getting a bbk unless you track your car. If you don't have heat dissipation issues it is some cosmetic upgrade only. If you do plan on tracking your car, The cheapest option would be to get something used, and the most common is the brembo system off a totaled z/g sport.

For rotors, just get cheap blanks, or if you want to splurge, some fancy centric blanks. Don't bother with cross drilled or slotted. Both cross drilled and slotted rotors increase brake pad wear by at least 25%, and only give you a benefit if you are tracking your car and experience brake fade. And if you are tracking your car, you probably don't want to deal with rotors cracking and paying like $1k every year or two replacing them.

The most important thing is choosing your brake pad. This depends highly on what you want them to do. The stoptech super street pads are supposed to be daily driveable/autox light track use pads. They work pretty well. Work fine on the street though pretty crappy feel at coldish temperature (i'm in Cali so never that cold), but it can still get to abs braking on the first brake at 50 degrees at least. Minimally acceptable at the track, get brake fade in like 6 minutes of heavy use, but it is gradual and you can live with it, but it isn't a lot of fun. Tons of dust, very slight noise.

They are pretty equivalent to the Hawk HP+ pads. I had a ton more noise when using the hawk hp+ pads but that might have been from the metal shims.

If you aren't tracking your car, you should look into the posi-quiet brakes, either ceramic if you don't like dust or semi-metallic. Or look at the hawk HPS or hawk ceramic.

Truthfully, the OEM brakes are pretty good setup for daily driving, just don't track your car with them.

I would agree. No sense in spending a ton of money on a BBK if you're not going to track the car, other than perhaps going to the occasional show.
