Brake pads, new ultimate thread
I'd like to start a thread pertaining to just brake pads. A few friends of mine have G35's and I have no idea which pads to recommend to them. So if you have aftermarket pads, please help me out with some info such as:
What pads do you have now?
What did you have before?
How does it compare?
How much did it cost for the pads?
Would you use these pads again?
Who installed them and bedded them in?
Did you reuse the brake rotors? Were they resurfaced?
Squeaks and squeals?
Dust much?
So pretty much the more the merrier. Now people can have a direction for pad choices.

No this is more for aftermarket pads, and what the differences are. I just wrote a long detailed example until I got a phone call and it dissapeared lol
For example, on my Miata, I had stock brake pads, I was quite impressed when I switched to Hawk HP+ pads. It was about $70 for the fronts. The first time I tested them out with a quick stab of the brakes, I nearly fell out of the seat and had to adjust my harness. No joke! I didn't resurface the rotors but I knew I was going to replace them next set of pads, and I knew that these new pads are aggressive anyways so I didn't bother. I don't want to go back to stock pads after these and am now on my 4th set! The price was more than some Wagner pads at O'Reillys and they dust a lot more but I think its worth the trade off for awesome initial bite and occassional track use. The only other thing worth mentioning is that even though some people with these pads complain that it squeals like a bus, I took some techniques learned as a meachanic and applied them and mine do not squeal at all. I am very happy with them and would recommend them to anyone who drives their Miata hard with some occasional track use or autocross use.*

What pads do you have now?
Stoptech super street
What did you have before?
Hawk HP+
How does it compare?
Pretty similar to the hawk HP+ i think, though much much less noise (though it might be with my bent metal shims i used with the hawk HP+) Adequate cold braking. I can abs brake at normal daily driving, even in rain. Never gets too cold in cali though. Brake feel not terribly good, definitely better feel after warmed up at the track. Fades at the track in about 5-7 min of heavy usage for me, though somewhat manageable. I think the fade was fairly comparable to the HP+ if not better.
How much did it cost for the pads?
don't remember, got it off tirerack
Would you use these pads again?
probably not. Probably will go for more track oriented compounds for next set. I would recommend them though. Good price point.
Who installed them and bedded them in?
me
Did you reuse the brake rotors? Were they resurfaced?
yes, no
Squeaks and squeals?
yes, though not as much as the Hawk HP+ i had on previously. Mostly squeaks at low speed, like very end of a stop on the street. used plenty of the anti-squeak goo. definitely liveable.
Dust much?
tons, similar to the hp+ and the oem brembo material

What pads do you have now?
Project Mu NS
What did you have before?
OEM Brembo compound
How does it compare?
Very similar in performance and feel. Great cold bite and solid fade resistance on the street, like OEM Brembo.
How much did it cost for the pads?
Can't remember exactly - about $130 for the fronts
Would you use these pads again?
Absolutely
Who installed them and bedded them in?
I did
Did you reuse the brake rotors? Were they resurfaced?
Reused them w/o resurfacing
Squeaks and squeals?
None
Dust much?
Less than OEM Brembo, but still some. Dust is part of the brake pad compromise. You want great brake performance, you're gonna get dust!

What pads do you have now?
Project Mu NS
What did you have before?
OEM Brembo compound
How does it compare?
Felt much nicer than OEM. Nice and cold bite and solid fade resistance.
How much did it cost for the pads?
$85 for front, and $75 for rear. Ordered from importdpsspeedshop.com
Would you use these pads again?
Depends on price
Who installed them and bedded them in?
I did
Did you reuse the brake rotors? Were they resurfaced?
Reused them without resurfacing
Squeaks and squeals?
For like 1 month every now and then. After that was pretty quiet
Dust much?
Less than OEM Brembo, but still some.
NOTE: I purchased these like 2 years ago, and am in the market to replace them. I was gonna buy another set when I realized that import dps doesn't carry them anymore. Searched everywhere else and they're around $130 or so, consistently. I hear from some that SpeedTech is a great option. They're like half the cost, so I'm wondering if anyone can tell me whether it's a better bang for buck than the Project Mu NS? I tend to drive a bit fast, but I don't take it to the track or anything.
Really appreciate the help.

Centric 105.0815 Posi-Quiet Ceramic Brake Pad with Shims:
Had used OEM exclusively prior, but cannot believe I waited so long to change.
Brake dust is almost zero and performance is at least equal. Cost is a fraction of OEM.
Centric is also the manufacture of many of the other brands you see promoted here on driver.
Pays to research....

Hey guys,
I am looking to substitute my brakes (oem brembos).
I DD the car 25 miles highway a day each way, and also a track once a month (4 sessions 25 mins)
I prefer to just keep same set of rotors/pads on and off the track, I realize that this will mean that I won't be able to use track-only pads, but I'm okay with the decreased performance.
I do care about noise and dust, but of course I am not looking for a pad with zero dust because brake fade will be ridiculous at the track. Price is less of an issue.
What pad would you guys recommend? I have heard about HP+, StopTech Street performance, EBC Red/yellow Stuff, Project Mu NS (Have had them and love the streetability, but have never used them on the track), anything else I should buy instead?
THANKS!
