Has anyone removed the Rear Upper Control Arm?

My right rear wheel has about 6 inches of play in the camber field and gets fishy under acceleration, so much that I have to counter steer when I go from hard on the to closed throttle. I've located the problem at the rear upper control arm ball seat that connects to the hub, however, the stud only has ~5mm of clearance from the Half shaft and loosening the nut with a wrench spins the stud. Has anyone removed this before or have any tips and pointers? I'd like to avoid removing the half shaft and all arms if possible.
Any pointers are greatly appreciated.

well Im sure being this was posted in 2013 you've gotten it figured out but for anyone looking what I had to do last night was realize the boot is ****ed anyway so I got out my dikes and started cutting it away. took a pair of vice grips in there tight as I could and it was able to keep the bolt in the boot in place enough to spin the nut off.
