I know you're going to tell me that a search will find it, but I've spent 2 frustrating hours searching this forum as well as others, and nobody has actually quoted the part# for the replacement KYB shock for an '04 Sedan with sport suspension, and I want to order new ones today.

My research shows that '04 Sedans with Sport Suspension have stiffer spring rates than the base Sedan's, and are actually the same spring rates as the '04 base Coupe (without Coupe's Sport Suspension option).

KYB's Parts Catalog lists the '04 Base model Excel G replacement shock for both Sedans and Coupes as Part# 344491.

However, KYB's Parts Catalog lists the '04 Coupe with Sport Suspension Excel G replacement shock as Part# 344455 (but makes no mention of a SEDAN with sport suspension at all).

So for anyone who truly KNOWS (and realizing that the shocks can be internally valved the same but can have shorter or longer bodies that will affect their fitment) - which KYB rear shock Part# is a replacement for the 2004 Sedan with Sport Suspension option - Part# 344491 or Part# 344455 ?

Would prefer to hear back from someone who has actually replaced their shocks with the KYB's, but all help is appreciated.

Springs are different between coupe/sedan. Shocks are the same, meaning coupe sport shocks are the same ones on your sedan.

I'd say there's no difference in the shocks on the sedans with sport package. For the 05-07 Coupes w/ sport (OEM 19" wheels), those KYB parts are the same ones for 350Z. The 05+ Coupe sport package (and 04.5+ 350Z) has 427 rear spring rates, but the sedan "Sport" package basically only bumped the spring rates to match the base coupe (342 in the rear).

Use 344491 as the OE replacement for your sedan.

Problem is, there IS a difference in the shocks on a 2004 Sedan with sport suspension vs. a 2004 Sedan without sport uspension. The red color on the shocks are one of the visual identifying factors (and it's not just the color - they are not calibrated the same as the base sedan shocks).

One answer says the shocks are the same between sport suspension on sedan and sport suspension on coupe.

Other answer says shocks are the same on sedan with or without sport package - that it's only the spring rates that are different.

We know for sure that the shocks were different on an '04 sedan with sports suspension package vs. the shocks on a base sedan - that was established in 2004 at the time of advertsing and purchase.

I know you each mean well, which is why I was hoping for someone who had actually installed one or the other sets of shocks on their 2004 Sedan with sport suspension, so that I wouldn't have to be the guinea pig and/or reinvent this wheel.

Any additional input appreciated.

 

My additional input would be to go to Infiniti and buy shocks from there if you're that concerned. KYB is an aftermarket product and they've spec'd out replacements as listed. OEM shocks from dealer may be different, but from KYB they're the same. Probably an upgrade for the non-sport guys when they replace their shocks.

6 different part numbers from Infiniti, yet KYB only has 2 covering the years listed. Since the Sedan Sport spring rate is the same as the Base Coupe spring rate, that's the shock I'd use. KYB probably didn't bother to make yet another shock for the base Sedan.

 

Thank you again LoSt180 - What you say makes sense, and I appreciate the effort in looking these numbers up for me. Guess those are my choices, and it's up to me to pull the KYB or Tokico trigger, unless I want to spend 4x what the shocks are worth and get the OEM replacements from Nissan.

If anyone else has actually installed any of these shocks on their '03-'04 Sedan w/Sport Suspension, I'd love to hear from you. Otherwise, I'll make a move based upon my own deductions and the valuable input of my fellow members - appreciated.

 

Ok, pulled the trigger on the KYB GR2 #344491 rear shocks as replacements for my stock '04 Sedan w/sport suspension, plus ordered the mounting kits (new rubbers and metal sleeve, etc.) too.

Taking a 1,500+ mile trip through the mountains of the Pacific Northwest in a couple of weeks, and those stock shocks are shot so have to replace. Read reports of the KYB's being an improvement over stock as replacements (although again no mention if sport suspension or base), but also that they have a very short lifespan, so I'll consider them temporary replacements while I research a bit more and won't be surprised if I need another set later (Nissan OEM? Bilstein? Tokico? hmmmm).

I'll report back on my experience, to help the next guy (or girl).

 

04 Sport Sedan.

I replaced my springs when I replaced the shocks/struts.The springs are from an 04 Coupe with sport suspension. I purchased the KYB replacements for the sport coupe, not the sedan.Everything works perfectly.

However, I too spent many hours researching this subject as well and also ran across the issue with the rear sedan shocks (they do appear to only make one shock for both models).

As someone mentioned earlier, the shocks on the rear of the sport sedan will be valved similar/identical to those on the base coupe because the rear spring rates of the two are identical.

Part number 34491 is correct.

Make sure you buy the rear upper shock mounting kits as well.
