Whole car vibrates when Braking
Whole car vibrates when Braking
The whole car shakes when I brake. The faster im going when I hit the brakes the worse it is. At first I suspected the front brakes because I had just replaced the pads and rotors. I just swapped the front rotors again and the rear pads and rotors are about 2 yrs. old. It's not the front brakes.
I do know that something is loose in the front right suspension. It clunks over slow small bumps, possibly the compression rod(?). If the bushing is really bad could this cause the shaking under braking?
Thanks for your help.

Members have been posting these issues since the dark ages, there's only one way to locate suspension issues. Find an independent brake/alignment shop and have them inspect brake/suspension parts. Take the time, do the research to find a qualified independent shop in your neighborhood....everyone has as least one! This isn't an issue you want to have the dealership fix unless you have very deep pockets. Just so you know whole car vibrations upon braking is caused by warped rotors.

Disconnect the negative side of the battery and let it sit a hour, reconnect and your good to go.

If its not your rotors or pads or any suspension parts, it might have to something with dirty/bad speed sensors. I had the same problems but with my ex 04 350Z Roadster. Took it for bad tie rods and ended up replacing all four tierods, inner/outer control arms/struts/strut mounts/brake rotors and pads. After the first time I changed out the tierods, I would press the brake and it would vibrate like the ABS had a problem. Went to get it checked and none of my mechanics could find out what was wrong. After much research on forums, I decided to change out my front speed/brake sensors. Bought oem ones(used but good condition) and went to my mechanic to go and switch them out. He took them off and they were terribly dirty and had carbon build up. Put on the new(used) ones and after about a couple of days of daily driving(computer has to get used the new sensors) the problem in all went away.
Instead of buying some, check if they are dirty. LMK if you need help replacing or checking them out, its a straight forward procedure.

I just changed the rear rotors and pads at lunch time. Haven't driven it to test out the work. The right rar rotor looked funcky on the inside surface, like the pad was only touching in a narrow band but the pad looked nornal.
I have been thinking that it could be something in the traction control system. If it isn't fixed I'll check the sensors.
Thanks for the new possibility.

New rotors and pads fixed the problem. The problem rotor wasthe right rear. It was made by Raybestos, ACT grade, their top of the line. Replaced with Raybestos mid grade, profesionnal grade. The bad rotor must have been bad from the start. The inner surface now has a high spot in the form of a ring about midway in the pad contact patch. The pad wear looks normal. The outer edge of the rotor is heavily rusted, with a chunck abouth 1 mm deep and 2 inches long.
