HELP!! First day of having car, brakes lock up while driving

Hello all!

I bought my first G, THIS MORNING.

Drove it, inspected it, poked it, prodded it, and decided it was the right by.

For my financial situation, I was floored with the car I would possibly be able to get. So we went for it. Drove it all day for different errands, joy rides, and showing some friends. Did great. Went to work, loved it, and then came home. Which is when things got weird.

I got off one of the major highways here in DFW, and was on an access road goign about 45mph. When all of a sudden, the VDC light and slip light come on and flash, and my front right brake locks up on me. And then released, and then locked on me, and again and again and again. Maybe an ABS spaz?

I pull up to a light, and it stopped, and was genuinely freaked out. The light turns green, and I get back up to around 45, and it happens AGAIN.

This time I was able to pull over, stop, take a moment, and whip out my phone and jump on the the forums. It seems I am NOT the first person to have this happen to them, if I am reading things correctly. I've seen people say it could be the brake pads, brake fluid(checked that, it is full) or the steering angle sensor.

I finally make it home, and I contacted the dealership that sold it to me, and they want me to bring it in Monday and give me a loaner car for the day, so that was very nice of them, as I know this is not a new car.

Does ANYONE have any clue what could have happened to me out there? ANyone that has had this happen? I am currently driving with VDC OFF, and that has seemed to 'cure' the problem for now. I drove it for an hour straight about an hour ago, and it did nothing wrong. Which made me feel a LITTLE better.

Anyways. HELP ME OH WISE AND KNOWLEDGABLE COMMUNITY

-John

This was happening to me severely after a canyon run. I changed the fluid with high temp race Motul 600, new rads, new rotors, checked the ABS sensors and everything checked out. It seemed to have stopped but my lady took the G to a doctor's app. across town and on the way home she said it happened to her... I was determined to find out what it was so I figured I needed to really find somewhere to get on the Brakes. I took it to my local autoX track and told them my situation and they were nice enough to let me on for a few laps for free. I was unable to recreate this problem. I am sorry that this is no help, but at least you know there is someone else out there that actually somewhat fears getting in their car for a drive. Please let me know what the stealership says. I took my car into 2 specialty brake shops and they both said the car checked out so I'm hoping you have better luck.

It hasn't happened to me in 2 weeks.

Edit: I as well have OEM non-Brembo if that helps... and 92xxx

Gosh. That's really not cool for you! Isn't it the worst feeling?!

I drove it a lot last night(after the issue presented itself) and then more today for work and such. NO issues whatsoever. I kept VDC off for both of those drive times, so I'm not sure if that helped or made a difference at all.

I do know that some people have mentioned the steering angle sensor being out of whack. Have you heard of, or checked that? No warning lights came on when it happened, only the VDC and slip lights. So I'm curious if it threw a code or not.

Just as you described it's when I was not even touching the pedal so it's a bit freaky and it has gotten me almost rear ended twice so it's definitely dangerous. I haven't experimented with the VDC personally. And I have not checked the position sensor nor have I really heard that may be an issue, everything I've heard says ABS but that could be inaccurate. When it happens to my the SLIP, and VDC OFF lights go on, and will stay on until I shut off the car. It will normally only happen to me after excessive heat or speed. It keeps me from going above 80 which I guess is a good thing?

We're definitely experiencing the same thing then. You say you put on new pads and new rotors? How much did that run you, if you don't me asking?

Luckily, the shop I bought mine from is a small boutique shop with an indoor showroom, so they've been really accommodating. Here's to hoping they find something?

Stoptech slotted and drilled rotors is what I went with from b2autodesigns. For the Stoptech slotted/drilled front and rear rotor set was $440.00 shipped. The Hawk HPS front and rear pads were shipped for $132.00.
