Brakes serve one function, and that is to convert energy into heat, and then dissapate that heat quickly. A bigger rotor provides more surface area, bigger calipers (6 and 8 piston) also provide more surface area (obviously). Unless you are doing heavy autoX there's not much need for a BBK other than the fact that their sexy as hell and very aesthetically complementing. You can get used OEM Brembo here or on my350z.com for under $1000 which in my opinion isn't half bad if your looking for a good mod to get a bit more ballsy in the corners of your local track.
There's endless forum discussion about benefits, costs, and usefulness across many different styles of cars. Just do a quick Google search (or ask Siri if you're one of those people!)
