Here in Hawaii, in order to get your coilovers approved for the road, it must pass a "bounce test" where the front end is pushed down, and the inspector must see some suspension travel "ideally 2 inches". Can this be done with stock 12k in the front? Thanks

 

Yes sir, put them at their 0 setting. Which is all the way soft then up 8 clicks. I run this daily driving and it's almost the same as stock. You can be safe by putting them anywhere from 5-8 clicks up from soft. Should be easy to test yourself.

So to clarify, 0 is not all the way soft, it's 8 clicks from stiff right? On the 1-15 scale, can I put it at like 3? Or would I be bottoming out with a ~2.5 inch drop?

Well we need to get our cars safety inspected every year. Safety inspectors will not pass your car if it has aftermarket suspension without a reconstruction permit. One of the requirements to get the reconstruction permit is the bounce test of your suspension to see that it has travel.

 

Worst case scenario find a shop that does corner balancing. Before the inspection set it to fully soft and remove some of the spring preload, it will bounce. Then get it balanced after you've passed.

 

I was going to go with Stance GR+ Coilovers but I heard that coilovers have a much harsher ride than lowering springs/shocks. I like the ability to adjust the ride height with coilovers but can I adjust the ride quality to be as soft as stock (I am just thinking how annoying it would be to have every bump in the road be so harsh, it wouldn't make the ride very enjoyable).

That's good news, but aren't the spring rates like 12K on the Stance GR+, how does it end up being as soft as stock?

 

U can build the coils however u want.. Adjust the dampening, swap springs.. Up to u.. My stances are a little stiffer than stock but still ride nice..

 

I had a shop install my Stance GR+ coilovers so i'm not sure what exact number setting the stiffness is set to, but i told them to start off somewehere near the middle, and i have to say it is slightly stiffer than stock so you could go WAY softer or WAY stiffer either way. BTW I love these coils (true style in rear)!!

 

errrrr, bounce travel is more about ride height than suspension stiffness. The softest suspension in the world won't help if your wheel doesn't have 2" upwards to move.

 

Well assuming the wheel has 2" to move. The two inches is the "ideal" movement, I probably can get way with 1". I was thinking of setting the damping to a few clicks below 0? Probably gonna lower it around 2.5" inches, then when I get approved I would stiffen the damping to make sure I don't bottom out. I'm on coupe 18's so I think my wheel would have clearance with the inner fender. Don't have to worry about the wheel/tire hitting the outer.

 

If I were putting my hands on the hood and pushing down on the car, would I be able to push the car noticeably lower if the dampening is set near full soft rather than full stiff?
