While my car is down waiting on some headlights I went ahead and did my calipers in silver. I still have my winter wheels on but the summer setup will be on in the next week or two & the calipers are much more visible behind my summer 20"s. Ive used this caliper kit before about 6 years ago on my weekend car and they still look like they were freshly done so I know this will last. Its a brush on kit so you only have to remove the wheels, after 8+ hours the paint hardens & stays smooth.

Time Required: About 1.5 hours with me relaxing a bit in between. I did the fronts first then the rears. 2 coats per is all that's needed. Just thought id share, i love this brush on kit 100x better than painting them, it last for ever, dosnt flake or chip and is easy to apply. They can also do custom color sets per request but i usually stick with basic silver or black.

I went back and cleaned up the black boots when I was done, had a little overbrush on some of them but wiped off easy.

Thanks, yea on my weekend car I did the calipers in gloss black like 5+ years ago and the paint still looks great on them. Same kit used back then as well. The silver has a bit of sparkle/shimmer to it in the sunlight but hard to catch with my iphone. They are more slick & glossy in person than the pictures reflect.

 

They look much better but it sucks you went through all that trouble and didn't get a can of caliper spray paint to get rid of the rust in the center. It works great.

 

Ok, so what im wondering is how well this resists brake dust...?

I have the Brembos on my 04, but my buddy wants to paint his brakes on his MS3. Now, something I notice about my Brembos vs people who paint their calipers is that my Brembos don't gather dust and people who paint theirs always gather dust and look like a$$. Like, they look like they were painted at home. Does this paint look like factory/pro paint? I can't tell on yours cuz the silver just looks like a regular unpainted brake caliper.

 

Looks good man! I bought the same G2 kit for my Akebonos but in red. They came out really smooth, glossy, and even. Impossible to chip, and there is a lifetime warranty on it too. Ive seen some $300 powdercoat jobs look just as good as this $30 kit. You can get it colormatched but that is a bit pricier ($90 I believe). I wipe mine off whenever I wash the car (weekly), but they never look dirty.

 

I'm gonna do this I just didn't wanna use the brush stuff as I wasn't sure I wanted to do silver or black but after seeing yours the silver looks natural. Ill definitely hammer that out this week while she is down. Any brand you recommend? Is there a brush on type you might recommend? In hindsight I should have just used the stuff I used for the caliper but I was up in the air on color. Problem with the spray kind is I have no intention of removing the rotor for this & spray is messy. Id have to tape up quite a bit to avoid anything getting on the car. A brush on paint would be ideal, perhaps ill be snagging another silver caliper kit to do the rotor center hub & inner ring around the rotor.

 

Its a lot glossier & smooth in person. They resist break dust much, much better than spray paint. Ive re-done my brakes a lot over the years including powdercoat and this kit has the same results with a fraction of the cost and time. I wont use anything else to coat my calipers.My weekend car was coated 5+ years go with this kit and they are still gloss black and look clean! It would be easier to tell if I did a different color but I just wanted something clean that wouldn't draw too much attention away from the wheels while not going gloss black and hiding them. With my summer wheels on there the color is perfect for my situation.

Edit: The more & more I think about it I should just buy another kit in silver & do as mentioned. I can use a sponge brush to apply sense its a larger surface area. I could probably knock off the surface rust with a basic wire brush in no time & go to town on them. Spraying would require a lot of masking/taping & even then spraying has never been as reliable as the brush on material for me. Probably cost me another $20 over spray paint but worth it in the long haul. Ill update pics next weekend!

 

Ok, cool, ill let him know about this kit. He was gonna get em powder coated but its his dd so he can't have the calipers off for more than a day. Not to mention I think they wanted like $70/caliper. This is perfect.

 

Yea, hands down best bang for the buck in my experience!

 

So I finally got around to painting the rusted center hub and such today. Honestly this took like x3 longer than I expected. Spraying would have been 10x easier but perhaps this will last longer as it did on my calipers thats for sure. Anwho I bought another brush on kit, same used for the caliper and went to town. Dont worry about the bad tape job, the first time I hit the brakes anything in the contact path of the pad should burn right off. It took 2-3 coats per rotor which is why it took so long. Its quite a bit of surface area for a "brush" application. The surface rust on the entire rotor comes off the first time I hit the brakes, its rained here like 5--6 times in 2 weeks and the car has been sitting that entire time.

Ill get better pics later in the week but here's some basics on the stock wheels.

I used rattle cans of high heat paint close to the Twilight Blue paint on SLICK five years ago and it still looks new and shiny. After removing the wheels and spending time cleaning the rotors/calipers with carb cleaner, then masking off those area I didn't want to paint the results were great...Gary

 

If i ever have to do this again I will definitely use spray as the brush on just took soooooooo long. It matches the calipers perfect but took for ever to finish. It will look 10x better after I install my summer rims & take pics after driving the car so the surface rust is gone. Car sat for like 2 weeks while I worked on it/waited on headlights & it damn near rained like every day. I also have front and rear spacers that cover the entire center hub but only the fronts got reinstalled because the rears don't fit with my summer wheels until I get the rear fenders rolled & i figured I might as well seal/coat the entire thing while I am at it.

 

Great job. That looks great. I used the spray but I'm sure the brush on will look better longer.

 

What makes you think that ^ ? The high heat exhaust rattle can paint I used 5+ years ago still looks like the day I painted them! Do the prep work right and cleaning once in a while, rattle can paint cost less and lasts just as long! Who wants to wait what 24 hours before you can reinstall your wheels? Not me...
