quick question about removing stock spring on 05 coupe

So I just upgraded to raceland último coilovers. My question is can I remove the "tray" that was holding the oem spring in place, or does it play a part in the overall suspension?

This thing here<br/>

You can replace it or keep it. Most people keep it. I made my own spring bucket arms. But spc, circuit sports and stillen all make replacements I believe.
