Brake pedal has a “dead zone” at the very top of travel

03 coupe w/ brembos. The brake pedal has a dead zone of travel, maybe 1/2-3/4” at the top. It has newish pads and rotors (10k miles), stainless lines, and fresh fluid from about 4 months ago.

There isn’t any air in the system, the pedal never gets mushy, or sinks to the floor, etc.

What else can I check? I autocross pretty regularly and the brakes work fine (it stops really well) but I’ve never actually been able to get ABS to engage w/ VDC off. It feels like there’s a lack of brake force.

If I really have to stand on the brakes, it feels like I can get the pedal down halfway to the floor. Again it stops fine, the pedal doesn’t sink to the floor (no air in system) but I feel like there is something not quite right.

Probably your brake master cylinder failing. Look under the dash and work the pedal by hand to ensure it doesn't have some slop in it but if you've bled the system properly with fresh fluid and it feels wierd like that it's likely the BMC.
