DIY Big Brake Options
DIY Big Brake Options
G35 coupe. Has anyone done anything creative for a front and rear big brake option that is a good bang for your buck? For my application it is more about the look than a true need. I have big wheels and would like to fit them with a big brake. I’ve done similarly before by putting newer Mustang Cobra brakes on an old Mopar with a set of brackets. Is there a new Ford or Mopar option, or something else (same bolt pattern), anyone has used? I would also prefer to avoid “Nissan” or “Infiniti” on the calipers as this is a body kit (Vaydor) that really doesn’t look like the G35 anymore. Thanks.
Honestly, branding shouldn't matter since you can just paint the calipers anyway.
Very common option: G37/370Z Akebono calipers & rotors. Front needs a bracket, available from Z1 or CZP. Rear bolts up. Paint calipers if you don't want branding. Super easy to find since these calipers were on several different cars from 2009 to current.
Bolt on options: Brembo calipers from early G35 and 350Z. Rotors are smaller than the G37 ones, and calipers seem to be harder to find.
Nismo 350Z brake caliper upgrade kit.
If you want to get froggy, Jeep Cherokee SRT front calipers will bolt right up with slight mods to the knuckle and uses 370Z rotors.
There are other Brembo options like the 6-pot 17Z with brackets. 4-pot rears are usually a little harder, like needing a bracket plus grinding spots on the calipers. Search for CTSV brake swaps to get started down that rabbit hole.

Perfect answer. This was exactly the info I needed. If just going for a super car look, the Akebono setup is probably hard to beat. I’m just looking for something that looks like it belongs with the rest of the car’s look. Thank you.
Has anyone tried Porsche Cayenne brake kits ? I see a lot of Cayennes in the junk yards close by with super nice brakes and wondering if that is applicable to the G35.
