Has anyone attempted to uninstall ras??
Hello I have an 06 g35 with a bad ras motor . I cannot find new parts for it , nor do I wanna go buy a used one , so I just wanna know if anyone has completely been able to uninstall the whole system . I cannot find much info on what it takes , I’ve seen someone say , you need to get g35 non ras rack for the rear , others I’ve seen say I need the whole subframe from a non ras g35 . But yeah ik the system is fairly isolated and dosent send info back to the ecu for it go that in depth but I’m not so sure how simple it really is .
You basically just need the non-RAS ECM, instrument cluster, and rear subframe.
It is integrally tied into the steering control system which does send data to the ECM, it's not some isolated standalone system.
You could technically leave the instrument cluster alone since the light would be on and everything else would work.
So what exactly failed? The steering unit defaults to the neutral position if something is wrong with it. Take all the stuff out of the trunk, carpet, spare tire, plastic dividers, etc and on the left side down on the chassis metal in front of where the spare tire sits is a computer with a blue relay on the side of it. That's the RAS controller, unplug the harness from it (with the battery disconnected). The system will be disabled.
It doesn't have many components though, it's a pretty simple system that rarely ever has issues. It's FAR more common for other steering control systems to malfunction which throws the RAS system codes since it's integrated with every other steering control sensor.

I just happened to run across this thread while searching for something else and remembered this post. That person was able to get their RAS motor cleaned up and working again, you may want to check it out.
