When to change the rotors?

I currently have 28000 miles on my car and my brakes are wearing out. Currently on my rotors, there is a little ridge on the outer part of the rotor. Should I just replace the rotor or resurface it?

FWIW,
At about 30K it's pretty safe to say you should replace the rotors.
After a little wear there's not much left to turn down.

Standard thickness = 24.0 mm
wear limit = 22.0 mm

& also depends on run out; max = .035mm

You people have it so very easy..........for the last 15 years I have resurfaced my rotors every 6-9,000 miles doing a fine 0.003" touch up each time.......still get around 40,000 miles per rotor set..........the 7th set of new rotors is now due [290,000 miles 90 Q45]. Since I discovered brakealign rotor shims I'm able to reset the rotor surface to 0.001" or better each time which now gives me the 9,000 miles between retrueing.

I'm super sensitive to any vibration.

Had my rotors cut for the first time at 62,000 mi. Took them off myself, & had Pep Boys recut all 4 for $36.00 total. Replaced pads $38.00 an axle, got full brake job for under $120.00 Went to Pro Cermac pads, work great.
