Re: adjustable springs?

I think you need to determine what "a good price" is first. If you want quality coilovers than you are buying the springs and shocks at the same time costing you from $2000-$3500 Canadian. No sense it getting cheap coilovers without shocks because you will definetely regret it.

It's still a G thang!!

Re: adjustable springs?

Then don't get them with spirngs that are stiffer than stock, that way the issue of strut dampening abilties doesn't exist.
Providing your not going to drop very much, 1" would be safe. Lower than that,........................ forgetaboutit. And wait for Koni to come out with thier sport strut. That way you'll be able to do what you want and go lower than 1".

If 1" is all you want, call Ground-Control and ask for 350Z coilovers and tell them you would like them with these spring rates.
350/400. That pretty much your stock spring rate's (rounded off to match how they do their spring rates at GC).
Here's their phone number. (530) 677-8600 They are extreamly knowledgeable, but just in case don't buy any talk of "it's ok to run stiffer springs on stock struts",.....righttttttttt.

Re: adjustable springs?

you can run stiffer springs on stock struts. there will be no permanent harm done, AS LONG AS you get an alignment and get back to factory specs.

The only damage you will cause is shortening the life of your stock struts/shocks.

At this time it is unknown if lowering the car has any long term effects on VDC as most who lower drive with VDC off.

That's not a true statement.

Stiffer springs require struts that are valved to handle the extra stiffness. Turn a blind eye to the laws of physics and you'll be bouncing down the road like all these lowered honda's you see driving down the road. Factory struts do not have extra dampening to cover stiffer springs. Extra wear and tear is not the only issue, it is a side issue. The main issue is properly controlling the stiffer springs. Not only will the car have bounce but it will fall behind in shear performance to the same stiffer springs being run with the right dampening.

Ok now, the whole thing about this issue is this, how much does a person care about getting the car right. How much are you willing to except. It's one thing when you just don't care how the car rides and drive's. It's another thing when you end up with something you don't like cause someone gave you the wrong advice.

Eibachs work on these cars cause not only are they only fractionally stiffer, but they are progressive with much softer initial spring rates. Coilovers with progressive springs are extreamly rare.

Re: adjustable springs?

so the eibach's have a stiffness that is similar to stock and will not damage the shocks/struts? what the stock stiffness on our springs?
lastly, how much lower to the eibachs drop the car by?

Re: adjustable springs?

I am interested in this too. My service guy mentioned Eibach's for the G.
I will do this mod for sure, as long as there are no negative effects. If there are, please list!

Re: adjustable springs?

I got Eibachs installed about 2 weeks ago. nothing negative at all. Car feels the same as before. I got the Sport package with the stiffer suspension to begin with so they fit right in to the ride quality i had before the Eibachs. I will have to do the alignment as I do sometimes feel the wear is running a little weeird but no noticable tread wear from them. I would recommend the Eibachs totally. Lowers the Sedan by 1.1" all the way around!!! For the Coupe, the rear is 1.1 and the front i believe is .75.

'03.5 G35 BS Sedan (I love that acronym!)
Stillen Intake, 350Z duct
Hyper-Ground Kit
Lowered!
Bulbs all around!
Splash Guards - Aero
Need Exhaust, Twin Turbo or NOS!

Re: adjustable springs?

I sounds like the calibration can be affected by lowering it even 1.1 inches. There was some discussion on this at freshalloy. The tires will wear on the inside due to the affect the lowering has on the suspension. I am hoping this is not really the case, and/or my dealer can adjust it.
Anyone done this yet? I want to add these Eibach springs, but not screw up the rubber!
