Question Suggestion on D-Spec and Stillen sway bar setup.

Hello guys,

I have finally decided to get the D-Spec shock and 2005 G35C rear springs to replace my 04 coupe rear springs and shock. I already got the swaybar and now I am just waiting for the D-Spec shocks and then order the spring from the dealership when I am ready to put everything on. Now being new to this real car performance tuning business.. what is you recommand configuration/setting for the D-Spec and the sway bar? I want the setup to give me less under steer (but not totally remove it!), fix the highway bounce, and little less body roll. Any suggestion on this? Gsedan35? Kenchan?

Kenchan & Tinman seem to be the ones who have done the most research in this area. They would both be good sources.

My experience with Dspec is setting of 4 (from full hard) rear & 3 (from full hard) front. I'm not running stock springs tho. My ride is a little stiffer than stock but is only noticeable on 'washboard' surfaces. Otherwise it's just as smooth as stock.
Another good source for your adjustment(s) is the info pkg'd with the shocks. The brochure explains end results from adjustments pretty well and works.

Got stillen sways but not on yet. I wanted to drive w/o 'em for a while first under different conditions before I decided. Hope it helps.

with your springs, i would try:

F: D-specs 4 from full hard / sway soft
R: D-specs 3.5 from full hard / sway med

i think im going to go crazy and setup my rear swaybar to stiff setting this
weekend and see how much oversteer I can get. i still need to get
those adjustable endlinks for the front.

this is why i bought non adjustable swaybars.
I'm thinking that because the D-spec shocks/struts simultaniously controls compression and rebound...the adjustment is damping speed. So it's a matter of how much you want your suspension to travel at a given rate. Just to give you a better picture, think of a syringe. the adjustment is the size of the opening, and the size governs the rate you can move the plunger. How to adjust is a hit and miss situation. just record your findings because what may work for others, may not work for you.

Got my D-Spec shocks today! Can't want to have it install alone with my sway bar and 05 coupe rear springs!

Coming in late on this one but what do the 05 springs on the rear do?

I don't want to invest in the camber kit but I do like a stiffer ride like the 05 350z or 05 G35 6MT. Since 05 Rear spring has the same spring rate as the 350z, that is the reason why I get the 05 G35Coupe 6MT rear springs.

In simple form, I'm relating damping speed to their hard and soft settings, or the rate of feedback to get from the shocks. So what you're adjusting is the flow rate (speed) of the fluid passing through the valve. less holes open...less fluid passing...slower shaft movement, result...harder suspension.

Thumbs up

WOO HOO . I have everythings installed today (struts, springs, sway bars). My car drive nice now. No more bounce & roll! Look like the VCD/Slip light doesn't come on as easy when I'm hurry out of the corner! Not sure if that is the car or just me being too excited

I am using what Kenchan suggested and will go from there. I will probably leave it as is as I am pretty happey with what I got now

Thanks for all your help.

I've got Stillen Sways (soft/med f/r), 350Z H-Techs and D-Specs (4/3.5 f/r). So far, this is a HUGE improvement over the '05 OEM Sport Package. Much less understeer. In fact, I'm starting to lose rear grip a bit on very hard turns, so I'll be tuning a bit more via alignment. But I'd way rather have a loose tail than a car that only wants to go straight! -T

Teeter, during winter months you might try softer rear then front on D-Specs.
Please post your height with 350Z H-Techs and alignment numbers. Thanks

update

I have been driving with my D-Spec and stillen sway bar for a while now. I end up setting the D-Spec to 3.5 turn from full hard all around and the sway bar to soft front and med rear. When I have the setting at 4 front and 3.5 turn rear, I find the car over steer and cause the VDC kick in too easy.

The next things I want to try is to use 245 series front tires and set the front sway to med (when I start my new job.. yes I got layoff 2.5 months ago ). I am happy with my current setup but I still fine it to have a litte too much on power push althrought it is muh improved then stock.

Goes to show what sway bar tuning is ment to be about. The ability to taylor the car's at the limit behavior to suit your setup, your talent level and your style of driving. You can't do that with fixed sway bars, unless your swapping in different non adjustable bars.
