brembo nightmare
brembo nightmare
hello-
just got word from the dealer. i brought my car in for a 30k checkup (mind you i had to have a new engine installed 3000 miles ago though luckily under warranty) and was told "yeah, you might to change the brake pads soon, they are getting a little low" ok, no problem i thought, 30k on a pair of pads is reasonable, "....oh, and you will also need to replace the rotors...that will be $1700".....
this is completely ridiculous....essentially the rotors are wearing out as fast as the pads....is this typical of the brembos? i checked and saw that there was a class action law suit and resulting action by nissan to replace pads and rotors up to 36k or 3 years, however this does not cover brembos. i called infiniti consumer affairs division and they were completely worthless...."oh, the brembos are not made by infiniti, so we don't know how long they are supposed to last and its not our responsibility..."
anybody else out there have similar problems with their brakes?
how tough is it to change the rotors yourself?
thanks

VERY common. Search and you will find tons of threads. I did mine two months ago - ordered front pads (Brembo slotted) and all four sets of pads (Hawk) online for just over $500 shipped. I replaced the front rotors and pads, wasn't bad at all. I had a shop turn the rear rotors and replace those pads, another $100. Don't go through the dealer, they'll kill you on price.
Good luck!
Good luck!
almost 30K myself and i was quoted $3000 at the dealer for parts and labor of replacement of all rotors and pads. im just waiting for my new brembo drilled rotors and hawk pads. if i find the old rotors can still be resurfaced unlike what the dealer told me, ill probably stashed the new ones for later use and buy cheaper pads and wear the old rotors out since im gonna replaced them anyway. i got the new brembos and hawks for around $800 including shipping but you could cheaper brands and still have decent brakes.

i ordered project mu 2pc scr-pro rotors and tia kia pads for like $840 shipped they seem to be on back order though i will probalby go with something else. my dealed wanted to charge me $1000 ea. for rotors and $2XX for the pads just for the front. plus labor. so i figure 3g's for oem or 850 for project mu anyone with common sense woudl go with project mu but i ordered on the 6th havent heard hide or har from www.superiornissanmotorsports.com they didnt take the money i called they said they were having a hard time filling project mu orders and they would get back to me the following monday. but alas im in the navy and my ship pulled out for a little while on the sunday before that the day they were suppposed to call me back. so i will have to call them when i get back from out to sea. but anyway. that price is rediculous. for oem parts 3g's on my civic and i coudl buy anything underthe sun. 3g's on the G just gets you front brakes.

you can get Brembo slotted rotors for tirerack for about 400.00 a pair and all four hawk hps+ pads for about 185.00 for all four pads. You can go real cheap with after market parts, but you have a car with some of the best brakes available stock. That is why it can stop from 60 in about 115 feet.
Can someone pls explain why the rotors wear out just as quickly as the pads? I did a search but didn't find a satisfactory answer.
I understand why the softer pads would wear quickly and but I can't understand why the rotors would also wear at the same rate? What causes this?
With my 30K service coming up, I was only expecting to replace the pads, not also the rotors...
