StopTechs on a 2005 Coupe
Just to let everyone know, StopTech finished their checkout of my 2005 Coupe with a 4 wheel 13" kit on it. I guess I was the first person to put their kit on a 2005, since they hadn't tried it up until now. However, Matt Weiss there tested out the kit and gave it the stamp of approval. I'm taking it to the track this weekend so we'll see how good it really is. For pads, I'm running Pagid Orange on the front calipers and Axxis Ultimates on the rear. I also switched out my fluid to Motul RBF 600, so things should work really well.
I posted in another thread that the StopTech kit didn't fit, but it turned out that StopTech just gave me the wrong caliper bracket adaptor for the rear. Since they didn't ever try their kit on a 2005 before, they thought that the brake changes were the problem. However I let them keep the car for a couple days and they swapped out the bracket and even checked the piston sizing to ensure proper brake balance. Matt and the guys there seemed very thourough and were nice enough to give me a little tour of their facility in Torrance. I also found out that not only do they sell their branded kit, but they also make the brakes for Saleen and Toyota Racing Development (TRD).

I did the install myself, so that was $0. I wanted something subdued and I thought the silver calipers would match the wheels and my diamond graphite paint better. While the bling of the BBK is nice, I really did the upgrade to improve my performance on the track. If the brakes gave little or no functionality, I wouldn't have spent the money on them. I'm not really into body kits, spoilers, etc, unless if they serve a purpose. I'd only change my bumper for instance if I had an intercooler that needed the cutout.
They look sweet man
let us know how they feel on the street and the track.
The Stoptechs are on my wishlist, thanks for sharing the info about the changes required for the 05's

How about a review of their performance compared to OEM
How come the rear calipers look so much like the stock Brembos from the '03-04 cars? Is that the only option for rear calipers for the 13" kit? I figured both front and rear calipers would like almost identical and the rear would be slightly smaller but the shape would be the same.
The two calipers are actually very different when placed next to each other although both two pistons.
Brembo rear 2 piston, 322x22mm non-directional rotor

StopTech rear 2 piston, 328x28 w/ 2 piece AeroRotor. If you put the StopTech 2 piston caliper next to the Brembo 2 piston, our ST-22 is much larger and stiffer.

StopTech rear 4 piston 355x32 w/ 2 piece AeroRotor, here is the other option for the G35 rear. (WARNING - very large picture)

Howard, what's up, I see you're on these forums too. Anyway, Espresso, from what I've learned in the past and from Matt Weiss at StopTech told me, the majority of your braking is done by your front wheels. Under heavy braking, the weight of the car shifts forward giving the front wheels the most grip. Thus, your rears don't need nearly the stopping power. StopTech balances their kit to ensure an even braking force front and back. For the 13" kit they determined that the 2 piston caliper was suffient using the stock master cylinder and stock brake biasing.
As for my feelings so far, I don't know yet. I'm running race pads on the fronts which are a little noisy on the street and don't bite very hard when cold. I'm sure this weekend will be interesting. I'll repost later after the track, and after I've had more time to swap the front pads back to Axxis Ultimates and try it on the street.
On a side note, those of you that frequent my350z and know Cheston (Chebosto), you know that his Twin Turbo beast is sick. Well, after talking to Matt, he was convinced too to change his front pads to Pagid Oranges. Cheston has the 4 wheel 14" StopTech kit. Last nite we bedded his brakes (10 runs 60-5mph, followed by 4 stops from 80-5mph) and the new pads were sweet. Hopefully he'll write up what he thinks about this Saturday since he'll be at Buttonwillow with me.
I also forgot to mention. While the 2005 brakes are smaller than Stoptech's 13"s, since the rotor hat and caliper are aluminum, you can feel the weight difference. Stoptech's larger parts are also noticeably lighter. Less unsprung weight =

I just perfer the look of the 14" rear calipers. It makes the setup more noticable since I'm sure you shelled out $4-5k for the setup and although you purchased them for performance, it's nice to show them off at the track too.
