Sway Bar Settings with Rear Brace
Sway Bar Settings with Rear Brace
I was just curious if some of you who have the Stillen Sways also have the Rear Brace what your settings are at? It seems by what I've read the most popular setting is Med./Med. which I was thinking about setting it to myself. However, I was wondering that being that I'm also installing the Rear Brace at the same time if this would somehow change what I should set my sway bars 2. I'm certainly a Newb when it comes to stuff like this and have no idea what to expect and or what is right for me. I was thinking that the best setting for me would be set the Sways so that it is very similar "feel" to what I have now being that I'm used to that. So, what setting would I set my Bars to have it "feel" the same as now? Another Newb questions is how does a Rear Brace effect my overall handling of the car? In other words how would it drive with the brace and Med./Med. ie what could I expect it to handle like. Thanks for all the imput and some for being such a Newb.
I have my sways at MED/MED... My strut brace is on it's way. Most people have them at Soft/Med to reduce understeer but Med/Med feels good to me. I want the rear stiffer and I don't want to go to the Hard setting or Med-Hard half setting so I opted for the strut brace. Plus my 350Z came with one stock and I believe we are missing that key suspension component.
I'd say it's all preference according to how the car feels to you since you are the one driving.

Purpose of strut brace is to reduce minute suspension camber changes as body twists. These are independent of the roll couple stiffness ratio that bars are designed to adjust.
Ideally as one stiffens the rear bar one would want to soften the front bar which is already too stiff to begin with from factory [understeer always] design.
Use the least amount of bar increases that does the job.

In the end tune adjustable sway bars to get the car's at the limit behavior right for you. Your adjusting for your given setup and driving style, both of which are likely different from the other guy. Be advised that you may be able to leverage better front tire contact with a stiffer front bar setting and theirby extract more from the tire. More negitive camber helps in that regard as would having a tire pyrometer to know what's really going on. Also pay attention to the relationship of your throttle and if your able to use it when you want or if it's become the scary thing you don't ever touch with any kind of G load.
