New brakes: any suggestions?
Have you ever wondered why they use such marketing names as: Duralast, Thermo quiet, Endless, Satisfied, etc..........instead of telling the truth.
Generic compounds are like All Season tires they do nothing well.
Aftermarket pads are not tested on a specific vehicle and do not even have to meet CURRENT minimal US safety standards required of all new car manufacturers brake pads.
You can get lucky and run across a pad made for aftermarket that uses oem compound........the German companies and BMW for example but which model for which pad?
Tests by Law Enforcement Institute found nothing beats oem car specific pads in rigorous dozen car tests.

202 pages of testing will surprise those who buy from NAPA
Not to say that specific racing [ultra high temp] pads cannot exceed a single parameter or two at the expense of diminished performance in other critical areas. Usually cold street stopping or ultra high foot pressure required for same deceleration.
