My Dilemma...
My Dilemma...
An introduction first of all...
I'm new to G35's in most respects. My father has owned a sedan for a few years now, and recently purchased a used coupe, track package, aero, for a summer car.
Myself, I owned a 240 that I crashed on the track, during the summer of 2005, putting on a drift exhibition, at Sun Set Speedway in Cookstown. Here are a couple pictures of the car in case any of you really cared...

Now with that being said, I know my way around cars generally speaking. However I've run into an issue.
The car he purchased came with some rather cheap IKON GT-6 wheels. I'm not sure of the offset but what I can gather, they're 19x10 rear 19x9 front. They look decent, but they lack the quality such a car deserves. For those of you who don't know what they look like here's an image...

Except these have some slight dings and slight curb rash from day to day use.
The one thing I will say however is that the wheels came with excellent rubber. Toyo TR-1's 275/35/19 and 245/40(I'm assuming)/19s.
Sorry for the I think's but I'm in res for another day so I cant run out to the driveway to check.
Now, in the garage I have a set of 18x9 18x10 Volk SF-Winnings (Black Face), brand new, both with low 20's offset, +22 and +24 if I remember correctly. These are wrapped in brand new Falken FK-451's. 245/45/18 and 275/40/18 respectively.
Here's the problem.
Everywhere I look on here, everyone is running a 19. Myself being a racer, I was never a fan of 19's. However, after seeing the 19s on the car, I can't help but notice how perfectly they seem to match the wheel arches. The 18's have plenty of tire to fill the space, but how well is it going to work with the lines of the car.
It bugs me simply because, while the car is my fathers, he's made it somewhat my project car. And I hate when things aren't done right.
Assuming only the 2 options, 18 or 19's, what can you suggest is the best option out of the 2, because if 18's look too small, then it'll be just a bad.
Side note, the car will probably be lowered at some point. Likewise, the motor is fair game after it's out of warrenty.
Sorry for the long post, but it's been bothering me for the last couple days.
Someone throw me a bone.
Thanks

I say the Volks are nice only if they were 19's.
18's are best for track use.
19's are for either but i find it more suited for street use.
Personally i have OEM 19's for street and 18's for track.

Really eh...
I guess a third option would be to flip the 18's for cash, pick up a quality set of 19's and then flip the other set of 19's after.
I'm sure my dad would love to take it to the track, but he's a little timid about it... I'm working on that.
I guess if I can find a buyer for the 18's it would make this easier...

nice thread
and your 240 looked great. sad to see it crashed.
imho, the G35C performs better running factory size 18's. 225/45/18
and 245/45/18. i would concentrate on running sticky tires like the
factory Pilots, summer Pilots, S03's, GS-D3's on factory size.
i also run 19's with the popular size of 245/35/19, 275/35/19. they
look great, but performance (handling) drops considerably.
after playing around with my suspension and various offsets,
here is my conclusion:
performance: use 18's 225/45/18 and 245/45/19's (+15 front, +25 rear)
cosmetics: use 19's 245/35/19 and 275/35/19 (low +20's, high +20's)

Thanks Amigo,
I picked up a new 240 chassis to prep for the summer, seems I'm going to have more then one project now.
I appreciate the information. As you can see with the 240 the wheels were very flush to the fenders. I want to do the same with the G35c, so I may even run a lower offset then the ones you posted. My team has a professional fender roller so rolling the rears aren't an issue.
As of now I believe my dad is just looking for something fun to drive with excellent styling. Seems 19's are the better choice in that category. The only other issue would be the suspension. With my setup I was running 9/7 coilovers, I don't think he would be too crazy about such a harsh ride, so I need to compromise.
What I'll most likely do, is get a couple shots of the car with both wheels when I swap them out this week. Perhaps it'll tell me something. I'll post them up when I get a chance.
Thanks for the replys.
