PBR or Axxis Deluxe Plus (D++) Pads

Hey,

I've seen these advertised on the forum but no real reviews on them on a G. I have an 04 coupe with brembos (6mt). Low dust and low noise is important to me and it seems the Hawks and The Project Mus have noise issues and the Hawks are not as good as OEM. So, I'm interested in this alternative.

How do these compare to the OEM?
How do they perform in rainy weather? (saw some reports on volvo forums that they are not as good in rain)

I might track my car once this year - whats the detriment in using this pad in that type of situation? Does braking performance degrade as the pad gets hotter?

Hopefully someone's tried these pads as they seem like they are a great value.

I have the same car and the same questions. Anybody?

if you had red with black interior you'd have the same exact car

what about any comments on the other axxis pads from anyone that has them. How is the noise, brake dust, etc.

Low dust [as opposed to light colored dust] usually means low friction coefficient. In theory a custom pad formula could be designed so that the color matches EXACT wheel color but then it would show badly on tires.

The only way is to try them yourself or take them to a brake lab and have the dozens of parameters tested.....brand new and worn down in increments.

Bad to trust others reports as standards vary greatly.

Pads are so cheap =========== try a half dozen brands or so and decide yourself. I don't understand why people are reluctant to throw away almost new pads that don't work out.

Remember few if any pad compounds are designed for the exact car [only oem spends that kind of money to determine the best out of every one available]..........aftermarkets are just a generic formula slapped on a backing plate that fits.........they are never tested on the car they fit.

Remember to clean rotors of old oem transfer film [imbedded pad material] so that the bedding process can occur rapidly............Report when you have 500 miles and 5,000 miles.

Pads need some time to out gas and stablize the binder/filler/glue.
Are you using oem pad shims or did you have someone design new ones to match new pad matierial?

Be prepared for an up to 10 foot longer stop from 60 mph, as most pads don't have the very rapid friction build up of oem.

Thanks noqlew, and if you had a signature I'd know that.

q45tech, does that mean turning the rotors or to sand. If sanding, what grit? I was also planning on transferring the shims to the new pads. After extensive research, I specifically chose these pads because there is no loss in initial bite and less dust (well, supposedly).

Initial bite? I wouldn't count on it, only accurately measured stopping distances will tell the truth.

I just lathe true/cleanup the rotors..........you can set the lathe to cut 0.001" if you are careful take extra time and use a brand new cutting bit.

The above assumes you have shimmed the inside of rotor [BrakeAlign products] to a runout of 0.001-0.002" MAX.

There are the 99% typical brake jobs and the 1% perfect brake jobs.

Sponger,

Have you installed these pads and are you pleased so far? Interested to find out what you've found.

Thanks!

Yes, I've had all four pads in for about 3 weeks now and I'm impressed. Cold or hot, the initial grab is better than the stock Ferodos. The Axxis pads also put out very little dust. I'm going to put these on my wife's Benz when it comes time to replace them.

Thanks for the reply sponger - looks like ill buy some of these to try them out myself.

noone has answered this question about these pads so I'll ask again - hopefully someone knows:

I might track my car once this year - whats the detriment in using this pad in that type of situation? Does braking performance degrade as the pad gets hotter?
Since they list that they can't handle a higher temperature, do they simply wear out faster as they get hot? Do they damage the rotor? What are the main issues?
