2005 Brakes HORRIBLE!

I bought my 2005 couple about 11 months ago and my only issue is that the brakes are horrible. My previous car was a maxima se and the brakes were much better. I just passed 12,000 miles and I am wondering what you guys think that I should do? They pulsate all of the way to a stop. I do drive the car a little more agressive than the average driver but I do not beat on it.

Do you guys think that the dealer will replace my brakes? And... if they do I am afraid that I am going to be in the same situation in another 12k miles.

If the dealer will not pay for it under warranty, how much will it cost to have infiniti do a brake job? Should I take it to Nissan instead.

I am frustrated!

It sounds like your rotors could be warped. If thats the case they should be machined or replaced. That should be warranteed since the car isn't even a year old.

Pulsate? Sometime this means that you mashed on your brakes alot to where they heat up soo much that they warp. This will most likely fall in the wear-n-tear category and will not be warrantied. They can tell by looking at your pads if they were used up or the rotors if there were heat marks.

On a side note- I parked head to head with another G-coupe(03-05', mine is 06') at the mall. I was looking at the front wheels and notice that the other one brake rotors are smaller than mine. Both mine and the other had the same 18" wheels, so there was no mistake. Can anyone confirm this?

Maybe they upgraded on the 06'?

The 05 and 06 6mts come with bigger rotors and I believe it's included in the 05/06 sport package as well.

Wow, I have 31,000 miles on my 05 6MT in 14 months and my brakes are fine. If you have warped your rotors then either you raped them before they had a chance to bed with the pads when the ride was new, or you have done a few brake stands (dropping clutch, hitting gas and stepping on the brakes a little to spin the tires). The torque on the rotors during a brake stand will pretty much ruin rotors.

I know the 03 and 04 cars had some brake problems, but that doesnt mean that anything that happens to your brakes is Infiniti's fault.

sounds like your rotors are warped. i wouldnt recomend to machine them, usually on higher end cars its better to just replace them all at the same time. while your at it, get some stoptechs or brembo rotors..

be sure this isnt your tires. Usually premature tire wear happen around this time and it feels like it pulsates sometimes. I had the same problem thought it was my brakes and found out my bake tires were bald. You should look at your tires see if the are bald if not you need an alignment. Do that it might fix the problem. It did for me.

I got 04 brembo's and took mine in for pulsating pedals..

I bought the car with 25k miles and brought it in after driving about 6k.

I complained about the brake pedal vibrating plus brake pads worn down to the minimum.

I got new pads front and rear, 3 rotors re-surfaced and 1 rotor replaced all under warranty.. I love my dealership.

Either the car needs an alignment or more likely the rotors are warped... Its pretty common you should be able to get it fixed with a simple rotor resurfacing.. most likely not covered by your warranty...

This is funny and so true. I love how they put in the title “05 brakes sucks” and never “MY brakes sucks”. I don’t know but I guess it makes people feel better when they can blame their problem on an entire model’s year (in this case, all of 05 brakes). It sometimes irks me to read these problems. If I was a new buyer and was researching for a car and found G35Driver forums and saw “05 brakes sucks”, it would make me think the 05’s have the same problems as the previous 03-04’s brakes and I would buy another car (which wouldn’t be good for our resale value). Anywho, I have about 8200 miles, no squeaks, pulsating brakes, or no rattles. However, I do have the sunroof squeaking (I just told the dealer and they did the TSB thing), chair rails squeaking (I will bring it up at my next oil change), but it is a car and it does have a gazillion moving parts so I’m ok with it.

BTW, the 05 coupe has the same size brakes as the 06. I haven’t seen them mentioned anything about it being different. Also, on a side note, I had to brake really hard because I didn’t see a stop sign until it was almost too late. This is one of those funky right-sided exit ramps on the 101 freeway in California. It was a down slopping exit-ramp and the sign was on the right side but not on the left. I went from 60-0 in a blink-of-an-eye and I didn’t even hear the tires squelch. At that point, I was a die-hard fan of the 05 brakes. OK, I’m a Hypocrite since I’m ranting and complaining about ranting So sue me! 
