Not a good choice for use with any shock other then 05/06 coupe sport suspension shocks, oem 04.5+ Z shocks, D-specs or Koni's.

a coil spring, when cut, will still have the same spring rate as it did before the cut due to the axial and toradial forces compressing the springs.. your analogy with the ruler is closer to leaf springs like that used on the corvette rears.... the coil spring will just have less travel but the spring constant stays the same... if and only if no excess heat was used while cutting it....

Ken, I was actually looking for detailed instruction on trimming the rubber mount to lower the rear. Thanks.

gsedan35 did it on his sedan. he said to use lots of WD40 and use a
saw to cut the mount. that's all..not really much to it.

spring rate is a function of wire diameter, coil diameter and the number of active coil's. Remove and reduce the number of active coils (cutting them out) and spring rate goes up.

Example.

Wire diameter .57”
Spring O.D. 4.61”
Number active coils 6
spring rate 375lbs

same but with 5 active coils
spring rate 450lbs

This is why cutting springs is a no no. I can take the discussion into area's of oem dampning limitation's and insuffecient bump travel, but don't see the point.
