You did.

The Hawks I have produce very little dust. I had the dealer install them. Now the rears which are the OEM Pads get dirtier much faster than the fronts. MAybe a bad install?

Saying my new pads are better than my old worn out pads is kind of like saying my brand new tires are much better than my old worn out tires.

Tires and pads have much in common, the first half of their life is much different from the last half.

As the pads wear the insulative effect is reduced and the heat from rotor gets closer and closer to the cylinder and thus the brake fluid..........whose temperature increases and increases...........9mm vs 2mm pad compound thickness.

New tire rubber is soft vs a progressive hardening with each day driven, pad compositions change as they are heated cooled and heated over 300 days and thousands of applications.

Only fair to compare brand new [after 200 miles of breakin] of tires and pads not worn out to new.

Mixing and mismatch front/rear compounds is often exciting as matching the oem pads is nearly impossible.

Often the rotor temperatures will change hundreds of F [in multiple 80 mph stops] without you realizing anything different happens.

Luckily the ABS covers up much of this variation........but each activation of ABS cycle increases stopping distances.

I'll never forget blowing thru a stop sign with both feet on the pedal 6 days after I installed racing pads in January. When changing pads in Summer be careful when it gets cold and test before an emergency strikes.

I m at 18K right now on my daily driven g. I do roughly 80 miles a day highway. Over the past couple of months after dropping the car with z htecs and now adding the 20 in rims. I notice that when breaking, the you feel/hear the pad-rotor connection pretty loud. There is no squeeling or the vibration in the steering wheel but its just loud. The same goes for the tires. So either I m confusing the road/tire noise for breaking or my brakes are low?? How do you know when your brakes are running low? Does squealing always indicate when your brakes are done? At what mileage did you guys change brakes ( I guess front brakes more specific). Lastly my car is an 05' Automatic. I've had the car roughly 8 months.

I would like to bump up this thread. I am considering buying a used 2005 G35x, as well as Lexus models and Volvo S60 of the same year. I need to drive up to Montreal now and then, and would prefer AWD over FWD, let alone RWD, and the G35x fits the bill, provided that the brakes issue can be resolved elegantly.

After all is said and done, what kind of break pad and rotor life can I expect with the optimal solution out there? And what is the optimal solution, in terms of pad and rotor? Still the Axxis, (edit: ) Centric Extended Wear, (edit2: ) Nismo, or Hawk, and what rotor? [Edit: how extended is the Centric Extended Wear? Edit2: how does the Nismo compare for long life?]

Best wishes,

Expat

I do not think they make these anymore, but if you can find some...get them!

Endless Vita Nuova

no noise, no dust, great stopping power from cold start, linear pedal feel, easy on rotors, reasonably priced and minimal fade in spirited street driving.

last place I saw these was www.mynismo.com. ask for Eddie.

if you can't get a hold of any of these pads then I would opt for the Project Mu B-Force. a friend of mine has these on his G and is very happy with the performance over OEM pads.

good luck!

I was okay with my Axxis deluxe. No noise and hardly any dust. But I could tell it wasn't nearly as good when you first hit the pedal. The oem pads grabbed noticably better. But once you hit the brakes hard, they were fine.

I've since upgraded to 05+ rotors/pads/calipers front/rear.

Thank you both for your kind reply.

Regarding the 05+ parts, if I understand correctly, the rotors, pads and calipers must be replaced as whole, correct?

And these still offer advantages over the best 04 parts, then?

Yes

The best of the best of the best? I don't know the answer to that. But by design the 05+ parts allow the car to stop with almost indentical 60-0 times w/o having to resort to ultra aggressive pads adn the nasty dust it creates.

Ie.. the 05+ provide their stopping power with better mechanical parts that allow the use of more gentle pad materials.

Any recommendations on a pad that
a. won't kick out a ton of brake dust
b. minimal squealing
c. won't overly wear out my rotors (I don't track the car)

This is for stock non-brembo brakes.

Thanks,

I highly recommend the Nismo R-Tune pads. They make them for both Brembo and Non. I had them installed on my 03 GCoupe and they have held up fantastic even after 45k + miles. Dust is minimal and they have great stopping power. Also keep in mind that if you are looking to upgrade you brakes without going BBK look into SS lines too. They eliminate line swell when braking hard. Keep in mind that braking just isn't needed for Tracking but overall safety too, it may help you avoid an accident someday. Call Perf Nissan and ask for Eddie.
