Buy a car, pay later??

Hi,

I'm about to go in and buy the 07 G tomorrow. The issue I have is my money is sitting in a ING account and the transfer doesn't process until like 3-4 days into my checking account. What options do you have when I go in to make the deal? Can I sign the contract and take delivery/pay on a later date?

I talked to my salesperson and they said I could sign an options contract which will give me 5 days for a check to clear. I didn't ask her if there were any fees/catches associated with this. Any input would be great. Thanks.

Very simple just tell them not to cash the check until a certain date. But they might ask you for some cash just so you have some sort of commitment to the deal. Just make sure the money is there on the date you agree on.

Will you be financing or paying cash for the car? Either way, you don't really need cash/check in hand to actually purchase a car that day. What the dealer tells you is you can fill out paperwork to finance the car but you have X days to return to them with your own financing (aka a check for the full amount). As long as you return to them in X days, usually 5-10 business days, with the payment they will not put into effect the finance paperwork you filled out. I would never write a check to a dealership thinking they will hold it. If you want to hold a car, put a credit card deposit on it. Some dealerships are willing to hold it for say 24 hours unless it's a hot selling car.
