Plus, they're tinting my windows on Thursday (was supposed to be done before pickup, but it didn't work out that way). They also made the last lease payment on my '06 coupe, which I turned in one month short of my 12 month lease. The car had 3,660 miles on it (I keep checking cars.com, but it hasn't appeared yet.)

I just wish you guys would take your down payments on leases and stick them into a simple savings account and then pull the difference in payments every month from your savings into the checking account. At least you wouldnt lose all that money if you totaled the car or it would be available to you in an emergency.
These days with everyone banking electronically, you could just set it up to automatically transer every month.
I still cant get over the 8K down example. You would have been better off playing 2 hands of black jack. If you won both times you could have just about paid for the car. If you lost it would only cost you another 200 a month.
Dealers love payment shoppers...

Thats what I meant. If had negotiated the price, down to invoice, the net effect would have been $100 in savings on the monthly payment. Most dealers jump to "payment" mode when they know it is a lease. I dont do leases, but I have seen how the salesmen work.

I just wanted to add to what was said above by other posters. When you ask for a lease quote online or at the dealership, they back into the numbers by asking you how much you want to pay, put down, etc. Every dealer that I contacted online just gave me the final numbers. I always responded by asking for the supporting figures--MSRP, negotiated price, money factor, residual. This assures you of a better deal (by default, they will be around sticker for negotiated price unless they perceive that you know what you're doing), because you know what numbers you can play with. My understanding was that all dealers work off the same monthly promotions, so money factors and residuals should be identical--but that was not the case. They were close, but not dead even with each other (a percentage point on the residual can make a big difference). The dealer from whom I ended up leasing took a look at one of the quotes from another dealer and said that he had no idea how he could arrive at those numbers, and couldn't match them. Ultimately, he beat them and threw in the windows.
