Plus, they're tinting my windows on Thursday (was supposed to be done before pickup, but it didn't work out that way). They also made the last lease payment on my '06 coupe, which I turned in one month short of my 12 month lease. The car had 3,660 miles on it (I keep checking cars.com, but it hasn't appeared yet.)
What dealer got your coupe. I think I am going to get a used coupe. I was thinking of waiting until the G37 came out so I could get a better deal.

From the looks of it, that is the best lease deal I have seen...Is that VPP pricing or just great negotiating skills??? What was your salesman's name?

I just wish you guys would take your down payments on leases and stick them into a simple savings account and then pull the difference in payments every month from your savings into the checking account. At least you wouldnt lose all that money if you totaled the car or it would be available to you in an emergency.

These days with everyone banking electronically, you could just set it up to automatically transer every month.

I still cant get over the 8K down example. You would have been better off playing 2 hands of black jack. If you won both times you could have just about paid for the car. If you lost it would only cost you another 200 a month.

Dealers love payment shoppers...

You would've saved $100 a month if you negotiated to invoice before you told them it was a lease.

uhhh. why?

negotiate CAP cost on a lease just like you would vehicle price on a financed deal. you can negotiate a lease without just talking payments, you know.

Thats what I meant. If had negotiated the price, down to invoice, the net effect would have been $100 in savings on the monthly payment. Most dealers jump to "payment" mode when they know it is a lease. I dont do leases, but I have seen how the salesmen work.

A couple of factors involved. Four dealers within 26 miles to play against each other. Obtained quotes online via Edmunds.com (they seem to respond faster to these requests than when you do it directly through the dealer, probably because they KNOW that you are sending a bunch of requests out). I started the process about eight weeks before my then current lease ended, so there was no pressure to get the car immediately (although I definitely wanted it right away), and the dealers knew this. Had a minor issue with the dealer during the process, and to make things "right" they sweetened the deal a little bit more. It was a willingness to walk out of the showroom, which I did. They called me back repeatedly over the weekend, and we finalized the deal over the phone (I ended up signing the papers via fax). Finally, yes--I am a good negotiator. I'm an attorney specializing in transactional work, which I've done for almost 9 years, so it's what I do for a living. The window tinting thing is a personal favorite of mine that I have used for every car that I've bought or leased. After we get to a number that I'm pleased with, I say something like "I will sign right now, but you have to tint the windows." It always works. Always. Every time. I know from my prior vehicle that the window tinter used by that particular dealer is excellent. They are picking the car up this afternoon, and returning it with the windows done tomorrow morning.

I just wanted to add to what was said above by other posters. When you ask for a lease quote online or at the dealership, they back into the numbers by asking you how much you want to pay, put down, etc. Every dealer that I contacted online just gave me the final numbers. I always responded by asking for the supporting figures--MSRP, negotiated price, money factor, residual. This assures you of a better deal (by default, they will be around sticker for negotiated price unless they perceive that you know what you're doing), because you know what numbers you can play with. My understanding was that all dealers work off the same monthly promotions, so money factors and residuals should be identical--but that was not the case. They were close, but not dead even with each other (a percentage point on the residual can make a big difference). The dealer from whom I ended up leasing took a look at one of the quotes from another dealer and said that he had no idea how he could arrive at those numbers, and couldn't match them. Ultimately, he beat them and threw in the windows.

Negotiated price $36,800 for a fully loaded vehicle. Money factor was .00168 & residual was 68%. This was the original deal, and when it was slightly bettered by the dealer after a little mishap, they backed into the new figures (I told them what they had to take off of the original quote to get the deal done), so these figures should work out to a slightly higher lease payment than what I paid.
