Evo to G?? Yes???
Evo to G?? Yes???
You can probably tell from my username and thread title that i had an evo...I recently totaled it and i am looking to get something different. As much as i want another evo it just wont be the same cause i put so much into it.
My car was a 400awhp evo (i haven't had a chance to bring it to the track yet but people with similair set-ups run consistant mid-high 11's) and i know if i purchase a g35 i wont have the money to make it as quick as my evo...but i am willing to give up some power for some luxury.
First i know the older g35 comes with brembos and upgraded suspension than compared to the new ones (so i hear). I wanted to know whats the main differences in the g35 as the years went on.
My main question is im stuck between these three options:
1. buying a older g35 with semi-high miles for cheap and trying to save up for a twin turbo. (not as reasonable as the other 2 options)
2. buying a newer g35 with low miles and just do the basic bolt-ons for the time being and see what happens later.
3. forget the g35 and finance a g37.
I have been looking around the forums for the past couple days, so yes i have searched but i want some quick answers, cause i need to start looking for a car.
Thanks for everyones help

I'm assuming you are looking for a coupe.
If so i would go with 03-04 low mileage coupe so u will get Brembos.
As far as F/I, if u got the money go for it.... but i would check the Turbo/supercharger section and see if it is worth it or not.
G37 is a big compared to the first gen.
Bolt ons won't make the car much faster. Maybe 20whp peak and 0.5-0.7 off of ur 1/4 mile time. Don't expect to see huge gains with bolt ons unless u are planning to do internal work such as cams and stuff.

First, welcome
Going from a modified EVO to a G35 Coupe is a huge change. Completely different cars. As im sure you have an idea.
The G35 is a great car because it balances luxury, style, and performance in one. Though it doesn't excel above the competition in those except for style.
I would recommend you get an 05-07 G35 Coupe. They have significant upgrades. And though you might not get the brembo's, those are brakes you can buy for relatively cheap in our marketplace.
IMO, the upgraded interior alone is worth it. I don't think I would be able to stand the 03-04 interiors, since its not like our first gen interiors were all that great to begin with.
If you get the 05-07 6MT, you're also getting the revup engine. Which has a 7k redline and slightly better powerband uptop (note: not higher peak power, but it doesn't lose as much power up top after peak power like the non-revups).
There are other small upgrades for the 06-07. For example, projector headlights (HID's are standard all every year model though), better OEM wheels, front bumper and side skirts (assuming sports package)...etc, etc.
Goodluck!

thanks for the info...im gonna keep researching on the G35.
quick question...so a 05-07 G35 with basic bolt on's would break high (maybe mid) 13's??
but then like you said after that your kind of stuck there unless you go big (F/I or internal engine work)?

If you're looking for a drag car, then the G is not for you. If you want a great balance of luxury, performance, and style, then this is the perfect car for you.
The evo is way off on the end of raw performance and functionality; it completely lacks style and luxury.
Rethink your priorities, and take one for a long test drive.
