Hey everyone, I've been a huge fan of the G (skyline 350GT) ever since I laid eyes on the led style taillights come whizzing by. I'm 22, hustle'd my way to having a decent job and establishing myself as an entry level young professional, and about to have the money to afford payments on a decent car. I mean, my friends who are still doing teenager work are driving 03 dodge ram's and 350z's, so I'm not to worried about that.

I started with an eagle talon esi (lol i know, me mums car) moved to a da integra gs, finally got a 5spd bb4 honda prelude si that i loved except for the fact that it was non vtec and FF. I enjoyed the honda simplicity, but really wanted to get more into drifting and FR cars in general. I eventually got a 1990 toyota cressida that I enjoyed too much and ended up getting BHG which met its bitter end with a complete loss of compression. I picked up an ae86 coupe for a little bit that is still to date, the funnest car i have ever driven even though it was ball rolling slow. I mean hitting 70 felt like a serious rush. It had a revving issue, a lost title, and a fight with an ex gf, so I eventually had to get rid of that one. But I decided I was done with less then 130hp vehicles anyway, so I'm finally back on my feet and looking to get something serious.

Everyone has 350z's . Everyone. I dont like the way they look and the 2 seater is just terribly inconvenient. I thought about getting an s2000, but it was the same deal; I just dont want to deal with a 2 seater. I completely fell in love with the way the G looks. In my opinion its by FAR a better looking vehicle then the Z, thus is why it became my personal favorite. I got to test drive a 6mt eventually, and it seemed to be everything perfect in one car. FR platform, close to 300 hp, 6spd, with a frickin backseat. No I dont have kids, but I have friends who need rides sometimes. However, I am a driving enthusiast and I have heard of the extreme performance that the Evo is capable of. AWD, turbo, is very tempting, but I will be the first to admit it does look like a rental car with serious mods. I had a 4 door already, not looking to go back to it. But for AWD and turbo, with how well it takes to mod's im very, very tempted. I'd prob be too tempted to go rally it a bit, which probably isnt a good thing anyway haha. But, performance isn't everything, because I can't get over how amazing the G looks.

Which takes me to my point. After extensive research of the VQ35DE vs the VQ35HR it got my spirits down a bit. I read the VQ in the G isnt quite the same as the one in the Z? The Z takes better to mods? I dont want to finance 20k for an engine that I would be forced to run FI just to get a little extra performance out of. . So what is a good model of G to get? Any particular year? Or is it true, that the 350 does have the superior VQ and I should abandon all hope and get the evo. g37 is completely out of my league, as I am comfortable, not making bank rolls here.

So you will prob ask, "Well what do you need the car for?" A. Mostly a daily driver. I would like a car I can drive cross country if I wanted, or else I would just get another 86. But I do like to race a little on the side, and want something I can mod and be content with. I'm not that big into luxury, I prefer lighter weight and more performance over wood trim and analog clocks, but I also dont want the fastest 4 door box money can buy.

So what do you guys think....Evo or G? Or any ideas inbetween? I would really appreciate any input you guys may have. domo.

Evo if you're not looking for luxury. Go fast for cheap.

Really depends on what you want. I was thinking about buying a 07 STI or a 07 G35 coupe and even was thinking about a 08 G35 Sport Sedan.

Friends have Sti's, WRX's, Evo's, G35's, 350'z, Lambo, etc.. So I've experienced quiet a few cars already. Honestly it all comes down to what you want.

Do you just want raw performance or performance with some luxury. You can't really make the G35 any faster than it is without going F/I. On the contrary if you purchase a STI/EVO there's so much you can do for much less. Downpipe/exhaust/tune (stage 2) and you've just gained a ton of HP/TQ.

The way I see it, is that I'm still young and there will be many cars to come. I'll be content with the performance that the G35 provides. I like luxury and comfort and it seems as though the G35 meets all my needs. After 2-3 years I'll be looking for another car, most likely a M3.

It all comes down to what you want. If you want a beast raw performance and power get the evo. If you want something comfortable with performance and luxury then get the g35. My girlfriend, as well as many other girls love the g35. The only thing that worries me about a G35 is the 6mt oil consumption. Just make sure you still have warranty left over after purchasing the car. Extended warranty to 100k might also be a good idea.

Good luck with your decision.
