Newbie G35 questions

Hello eveyone! I know how everyone hates newbie questions, but I have a few. Been kicking tires on a few cars lately - two '05 G Coupes, an '05 Z and a new '08 Z GT. I like the G's much more - more refined and practical. I have decided to get an '06 model coupe, mainly because I want the factory Bluetooth deal. I also like the 19" wheels I have seen on some. I assume they are part of a "sport" package? I have also read bad things about m/t '06 cars - Rev motors I assume. What exactly is a Rev motor? Not that it matters, I am looking at autos anyways, but am a little concerned about the oil consumption problem. I have also noticed the rear spoiler shrunk on '06 models I have seen. Does the older, larger spoiler come on '06 models? Last question - what is a decent price for a '06 Auto Coupe with about 24-36,000 miles on it, with the "sport" package, Bluetooth, Bose, dual climate control, sunroof, 19's non navi ?? I appreciate all of your patience and time. Hopefully I will join you in the owners group real soon!

The spoiler was changed in 06 to the "shrunken" spoiler you see as compared to the 05 and down. Up untill the end of 05, the G35 had the bigger spoiler. but you cannont get the bigger spoiler unless you add it yourself or get an 05.

The 06 also had a few more changes, the reverse lights were changed, projector lights added and a few other things.

as far as oil consumption, its a mixed bag. I have an 06 auto and I have no problems what so ever, while others have had a problem.

and as far as pricing, I have no idea lol, Just look around the at the prices and take the average I guess.

Good Luck on finding the G for you!

Thanks Gin! I am slowly learning more about these cars. How do like your '06? I have heard the term Aero, Sport, and Premium packages mentioned. The Premium I have determined is mostly the interior goodies - Bluetooth, Bose, memory seats, dual climate controls. I assume the Sport package stiffens and or lowers the suspension and adds maybe the wheels?? The Aero - don't have a clue. Rear spoiler?? I am getting there slowly. I like to be armed with info before I start negiotating with a sales person. : )

How about a newbie helping another newbie

I just picked up a 06 g35 coupe with 30,700 miles on it for ~$21,000... It has everything on it outside of the aero package and possibly the rear active steer (cant figure out how to confirm or deny this)

Premium package for the auto includes intelligent key, dual climiate control, bose, bluetooth and so on. Also only way to get navi! Sport package has a different suspension, 19" wheels and pedals among other things...

Hope this helps!

yeah you pretty much hit it on the head. I have everything (Aero, Sport, Premium Package), except nav.

So I have the bluetooth, duel climate control, bose, the memeory seats, sport tuned suspension, the 19 inch rims (mine were crome instead of the gray), rear active steer which comes with the sport. The aero package which inclues the spoiler and I think a different front chin spoiler thing, but Im not quite sure. and other things here and there.

I love my G! mine is Black on black, which is nice. I think the black interior is much nicer than the tan, and alot easier to maintain. My Girl friend has one with the tan interior and you can really see when the seats get dirty.

The only complaint I have is the lack of pep, the car is ok, but not the fastest thing in the world. Thats why I modded mine.

Just a heads up, an 06 in the indicated mile ranges are not cheap, especially within the tristate area. I picked up mine with every single option from factory including aero kit, sport package, premium package w/ intel key & bluetooth, navi, & RAS for $23,000. The car had 29K on the clock and not a spot on it. Just thought I'd clue you in to what kind of market you're getting into. Everyone loves to spread the word that its indeed a buyers market with today's economy but we all have to remember what class of vehicle were dealing with here. A luxury sports coupe with an original MSRP of $43,000 that truly holds its value.

Thanks guys! I appreciate the help! I have heard about rear active steer? What exactly is it? Is it problematic? I don't want to get something that's a pain in the @$$ to keep running. I am used to having Hondas and Toyotas - decent reliable vehicles. Don't want the Infiniti service guy to know me on a first name basis. I have determined the Rev motor is the higher output manual version of the 3.5. Is that correct? Thanks!

'The Rear Active Steer (RAS) system is an electronically controlled four-wheel steering system. It was an option I think and not standard. If you turn the ignition key on but don't start the car and see, "RAS" then you have it.

The angle of the rear wheels are adjusted by the RAS system, depending on the vehicles speed and steering angle. The rear wheels are designed to turn momentarily in the opposite direction and then change to the same direction as the front wheels.

At low speeds, the rear wheels will not turn and the system functions as a two-wheel steering system. The , "rev up" is indeed a 6MT engine.

Good luck with your search, looking forwards to seeing you here!

I found a nice desert sand '06 auto coupe - 24k miles, premium, sport, and aero packages. Has rear spoiler. No ras or nav, but does have satellite radio. They want $22,780 for it. How bad does that sound?

Sounds reasonable for a starting point. Is it certified? If it is thats a really good price. If its not id offer them around 21 to 21,500 that should be acceptable

It is at an Infiniti dealer. I asked him if was certified, never said yes. I guess it's not. I have never figured out why some cars are, and some are not. It is a one owner car from a lease from Florida.

Last i heard it costs around $900 to get it certified... It also must have a clear title and such... If its at infiniti dealer and not certified id make sure you check into the car deeply

what does 'certified' really mean? i heard that its not that big of a deal, better to inspect the vehicle urself. 22k is still slightly higher than what you could get if you waited for a deal. maybe you can talk it down some more.
