Advice on purchasing G35 Sedan
Advice on purchasing G35 Sedan
Hello, new member here. I've been looking at a G35 for a while and found a deal on a 03 Infiniti G35 sedan. The car has 78k miles and looks to be in good shape (Pictures: http://www.mypicx.com/07032011/2003_Infiniti_G35/) The asking price is 7k, which I think is a very good price. I did an auto check on this vehicle and found that it had one minor accident on the rear center in 04 (The owner didn't mention it in the listing or through our emails). I am very tempted to purchase this car and want to check out this car personally, but I need some input and advice from more experienced people. Also, this is my first time purchasing a car, so I want to be more cautious.
Thanks
Thanks
You've got the autocheck out of the way - now get a pre-purchase inspection done by a reputable shop/company if you're almost certain that the sedan is the one. They will look for frame/flood damage among a pretty extensive checklist of items.
Go to the 1st gen sedan subforum on here and read the stickies/FAQ's/threads. Research helps make you a more informed and better buyer.
Check through Infiniti's TSB (technical service bulletin) and recall lists for the 2003 sedan on infinitihelp.com and check to see if the owner has kept up with them. There are trouble spots that happen (oil leaking from valve covers/radio & HVAC failure/window motors/compression rods/etc). You can negotiate from there.
Personally I'd stay away from the 1st year of a new model or a cycle refresh as they are fraught with usually more annoyances that get fixed in future years.
If you can add $$$ to your budget, I'd go with a 2004.5 or 2005 sedan. If you stick with the 03/04's try to find one that has a factory Nismo kit.
Good luck.

+1 on the dealer inspection. I spent $95 for one through a reputable Infiniti dealer, and fortunately it revealed that the car was in great shape and well maintained.
Good luck.

These topics have probably already been discussed before but I'm new here and new to the G35 scene, so please bear with me.
I'm looking at buying a 2005 G35 M6? sedan in the GTA (Toronto, Canada). The vehicle has the "Prem" (Premium Package?: ?Heated seats? + ???) and "Nav". The dealer provided a Carfax report that stated the vehicle had 2 reported accidents. One was minor and the second one was moderate (to the right side). The dealer said he would provide a Carproof report at the next meeting (when he would sell me the car). He would also send the car to an Infiniti dealer for inspection.
1. Does anyone know what "Carfax moderate damage" means?
2. I've seen some Carproof reports. How reliable are they?
I read on another thread about another/better (American) report company.
3. Are there any problems with the additional (not required) "Nav" package?
4. What are the major issues with these vehicles (other than brakes)? How are the electrics ( e.g. power seats)/electronics?
Thanks in advance.

Ask faiz23 to get you an Autocheck report - usually they are more comprehensive than Carfax.
Go to infinitihelp.com to search what comes with the different packages, including the Premium one. No real issues on the Nav system, a 2005 one will have an old disc that you may want to replace with a 2011 maps update disc.
05/06 6MT's can have oil-consumption problems. Also compression rod bushings, oil leaking in the coil packs, window motors? Look at the list of TSB's on Infinitihelp while you're there.
