Im looking at this 2007 G35 6MT this week out of state, the dealer is about 3 hours away from me. I've put a small deposit on the vehicle already to guarantee it will be there when I get there, and it is a fully refundable deposit which was part of our agreement so far. I also have it writing and in an email.

I was wondering if you guys could help me negotiate a purchase price. Im thinking 21,500? I've already put a $500 deposit on the car bringing it to $22,000, hoping to get them to knock off an additional $500. But I dont really know, I would hate to drive 3 hours to come back with nothing but thats all part of the game. If I am unable to lower the price, what do you guys think about getting some accessories added for free?
Help me figure out some options so that I have some idea of what to negotiate when I go up there. Any problems or issues I should look out for and pay close attention to when checking out the vehicle? What would I look for to indicate the oil consumption issue?
Based on kbb and nada, their price doesnt seem THAT bad, but I suppose theres still room to work with. I like the fact that the car still has warranty since the 2007 was also known to have oil consumption issues... but hook it up with advice/opinions please
Any other problems or issues I should pay close attention to when checking out the G?
Autocheck looks good too

The vehicle is over 4 years old with over 40k miles... I honestly don't think the price is that bad, however I do not find it aggressive either. I personally would not pay $22k for that vehicle, even if the condition looks good. I would probably offer something like ~$20k but would have to research the current market a bit more. My brother bought his 08 G35X with 30k miles almost a year ago for about the same price (in the midwest too). Offer something like $21k OTD.
I know the feeling of not wanting to leave without the vehicle... Don't let that feeling overcome the price as you'll be thinking of the high price you paid far longer than leaving without the car. I would say go drive the car and get a feel for it. If you truly feel you'll be okay paying $22k then no harm done if you go for it. I would take an aggressive approach and have then knock off at least $1k before I'd be interested. Keep in mind they want to sell the vehicle more than you want to buy it.
Good luck - keep us updated and don't forget there are A LOT of G's out there for sale, especially models a few years old.

Yea I see your point. I've researched the price of G's in my area (washington, DC) and the price is generally higher than the one im looking at out of state. The price of the car is lower than NADA and KBB, plus I feel more confident buying the car from a dealer opposed to a private seller. I dont know why but thats just me.
I think the price is alright, its not bad... Im going up there tomorrow and will probably offer between 21,000 to 21,500 OTD and see what they say.

If you are paying cash, I would expect the dealer to work with you a little more.

If I was the salesman, I wouldn't budge an inch. You've already showed your hand by giving them a deposit to keep it just so you could look at it, and they know you're driving a long distance specifically for this car. They know you're coming with the intention of buying and it will take something drastic to change that.
If you like the car, I'd ask for my deposit back and say you found a few cars being sold privately in the area as you wanted to make the trip worth your while. You want to have all your cash on hand in case one of the other cars peaks your interest ( having given no indication this one is special ). Leave for a few hours and come back telling them it's between this one and another one and then bargin.

I hope I didn't come off like an *******. I'm trying to help. I know what it's like to want a car really badly and would have made a lot of mistakes over the years in negotiating if it hadn't been for my father keeping me from doing impulse things that would have put me in a bad negotiating spot. I drive an '05 G35x that I just bought this August. The asking price on the car was the lowest within 300 miles of where I lived... and not by just a little bit either. By the time I walked out of there, the dealer had dropped the price another $1,600.
As someone said earlier, they want to sell you the car more than you want to buy it.

When I first seen the car online Sunday, the price was 22,995. I emailed them to inquire about the vehicle, late the following day the price had been lowered to 22,495. I kept in contact throughout the week and made a small deposit to hold the car until I look at it tomorrow. Hopefully i can knock off at least an additional $500 to $1,000 tomorrow.
What should I look for to indicate oil consumption?
I let you guys know what happens.

Well looks can be deceiving... I just got back from looking at the car and heres what I found.
- barely any coolant
- low tire tread
- the front grill had pieces of chrome left on it. almost looked like someone peeled off the chrome.
- when you raise the hood, it was rubbing against the corner of the driver side fender
- the hood was raised in that corner and wasnt flush with the fender
- the gaps between the hood and the front two fenders were not even
- windshield had been replaced (the engraved stamping on the windshield did not match the others)
- the trunk interior had no cover, when you open the trunk you see the doughnut
- the trunk lining was loose
- the weather stripping in the trunk looked like it had been pulled out (for whatever reason)
A couple things I wanted to ask you guys...
- does the clutch engage at high level on these cars? I noticed while test driving the car that I had to lift my foot up rather high before the clutch engaged
- Also I have a question about the VIN stickers. On my last car (Acura), the hood, dash, all doors, and trunk lid, all had a VIN sticker. I noticed with this G that there was only a VIN sticker near the driver door hinge/latch, the dash, and on an area in the engine compartment.
Where are all the locations of the VIN sticker on a G?
Needless to stay I backed out and got a receipt for a full refund of my deposit
Also, the car had a stillen exhaust which sounded nice. The shifter would rattle at idle, didnt know if that was from the exhaust though

As personal exp i am a used car dealer. My father owns it. By some of the stuff u listed it clearly shows that the car was in a accident and not adjusted fixed correctly. That is a extremely poor dealer of they are selling a used car without even checking the coolant. They prob didn't even do an oil change if thaz the case. Another thing I'd be a little careful about is buying a car with any major aftermarket parts on it from the dealership. Half the time the car came back off lease from sum1 who did the mod and beated the **** out of it. Try and stick nearby and look around for a reputated Infiniti dealer. My rule of thumb is rather pay more and get a car I feel secure and.safe about. Sumthing I noe that I noe was maintained and cared for. Gl searching hope u fond what ur looking for
