Help!! Need advice buying a car!!!

Okay guys I think I might've found a steal but I'm pretty uncertain what I should do. The owner is selling his car for 13k but there is a knocking in the engine :/ I've done research on engine knocking and I might have to replace the engine, should I go and buy the car, and worse comes to worse replace the original engine with a used one?

AD Details:

77000mi
Navigation
Heated Seats
Moon Roof
Power Everything

I have a 2005 Infinity G35 Coupe
3.5l
6 Speed manual transmission
The engine has a slight knock. Everything else is great on the car. It also has a cat back greddy exhaust, performance clutch and a short throw shifter. It has excellent tread on the tires.
I am asking $12000 OBO for the car as is. No low ballers and no trades please.

Additional details: He's had the car seen by a mechanic and he's told me that it could be a rod knock or something else. I asked for a description of the knock. They said it was not noticeable at start up and you can hear it a bit when it warms up. Not real loud mainly at idle.
Also he doesn't have maintenance records...

That is a lot of money to throw at a car with a known issue. Especially when the issue is related to the engine. If this is a last resort for you, bring your own mechanic to check it out and never trust anyone else. Especially when they don't even have maintenance records for the car. Otherwise, just wait and the right car will come up in the classifieds eventually.

It is good that there were no accidents reported as far as the structural integrity of the car goes. But I think you should have a mechanic check the engine before buying it, regardless. And that would just be standard practice in buying a used car is to have your mechanic whom you trust to look at it and give you the thumbs up or thumbs down. And in this case it is doubly so since the knock is a known issue. And can lead to rebuilding or having to get a new engine which you should consider as a possibility in buying the car. Which you seem to have already considered as a possibility in the original post. Peace of mind goes a longgg way. And hearing that knock once in a while would put me on edge.

And I'm not trying to break your ***** on this. If it was just a beater for cheap, I wouldn't care much. But this is definitely a different ballpark of potential failure lol.
