Should I avoid 05 6mt coupe?

After looking for a month i found an 05 Ivory Coupe 6mt with 58,000 miles. They have it priced at $16,995. I assume it has the REV engine? How can i tell? and how risky is it to buy an 05 with the potential oil consumption issue?

your expertise is appreciated

I thought 06 and up was rev up...maybe I'm wrong..You just have to make sure to keep oil in there..White 6mt are rare....I would haggle price and jump on it.

Are you buying it from a dealership? Do you have the previous owner's service records? Can you still afford an extended warranty for it?

If yes to most of those then go for it.

The oil consumption issue is hit or miss. You may very well be fine. Protect yourself to the best of your ability in either case and try to get the price down.

I've got an '05 6mt coupe that's burning some oil at 88k but I knew it might happen eventually and planned ahead, in the rebuild process now. Just have a plan for the worst and hope for the best.

Herbie's new ride!

Herbie, every car ever made has the potential for some type of issue. If you like this coupe, go for it! Low mileage is a good thing, get a CARFAX and if you're buying it from the dealership get a Nissan extended warranty if that will make you feel better. Check this coupes service records, that knowledge is always a plus. Good Luck!
Gary

I should mention that even with mine burning some oil I don't regret for a second having bought it. I would absolutely do it again. Like you, before I bought it I researched what the potential problems were and did my best to figure out how to mitigate them. Like Gary said, every car's got some potential for problems, stuff happens.

I wudnt chance it. Bought an 06, lookin. like a quart every 1700 on 5w 30. I shyed away for a bit because of this. Posted this for you.

Just topped off; stopped a little under3/4 bottle to prevent over fill. And im back full. Originally took 4/20 diamonds on the stick as a quart. Plus I had been checking over night. Feel a lil better maybe. Will see where exactly 4 quarts is at my change around 3400. If consumption is lineara quart will be depleated at 2250 for me. Drove it the way I always would; purchase included a 3mo. 3000k.

One of the biggest confusions about oil consumption is also that's not always due to the piston rings (which is a huge pain the *** to fix). There's a good chance there's just a bad PCV valve allowing blow by which is a ten dollar part to replace at autozone.

For the most part a lot of these issues are minimized with a vented catch can. Not all certainly, but many.

Edit: This is more JKL than OP. There are things to look into in the PCV system that may help alleviate your problem. It might not be as bad as you think.

I picked up a White 06 6mt with similar miles for about 1000 less back in November. Fully loaded with the Rays 19's and in excellent condition from a dealership. I also had them replace the clutch and flywheel before I took delivery. Id say lean on them a bit as far as the price is concerened.
