we found a beauty - 05x with only 28K miles, drives and looks nearly new.
concerned however about risk of breakdown of parts due to age, perhaps not as used, engine sludge, etc. driven short periods.
some old lady had it and barely drove it.
we currently have the same 05x with 90K miles, well maintained, all dealer serviced, and no issues. just concerned something may go on it.
difference between 2 if i trade in about $10k
we are torn. cant stand the bubble shape of current g, but drives better, more features. may go for a used 12x.
we may also opt and wait to get the q50.
would anyone here do a lateral trade for less miles? same age. are parts still liable to break down from age?

$10k to drop 70k miles. Your an idiot for even considering it, let alone post it here.
90k is nothing for a VQ35, if you dont believe me we have one thread with highest mileage. A TON of people are posting 150-200K. I think i saw 222k or 300k being the highest and most are posting its just minimal items to keep it running. I've yet to hear about anyone needing a huge overall. Some people might spend $2000 on repairs but they got ripped a new hole because they aren't DIY people for the most basic maintenance.
The chances of you wrecking the car is higher then the car giving up on you. One guy not too long ago gave up on his car because he was holding off on common maintence items like brakes and tires and when the crank sensor finally gave out, he traded the car in. The dealership quoted him $2000 or so to do tires, brakes and the sensor. Mind you the Crank sensor is a $100 part and just requires you to crawl under your and remove the 10mm screw and disconnect.
Dont get all attached because its has lower miles. I rather go keep your car because you know what repairs you did and that you took care of the car.

I was going to state that as well but he stated he didn't like the new "bubble" look of the 2nd gen G's. Which i can easily understand, its a completely different looking car on the outside.
this article also changed my mind - we will keep our g

Good choice yassy. $10k investment does not equal the increased value gained by dropping 70k miles. If you need to trade, best to go with something newer to hedge against depreciation. Any car over 7-8 years old, banks do not want to provide conventional financing, so dealers tend to offer even less in trade value. Private sale will get you the most money, but more time consuming on your behalf...
In short no I would not do this, trading for the same year car is pointless even if it has less miles, you could rebuild your own engine for less then buying that other one if you really wanted too
