What do you think of this G35?

I'm looking into getting a G35. I could use your guy's opinion.

After looking at this ad...what do you think it would cost to fix this? And what would you offer the guy?

A salvage title could mean the frame is bent or crooked. You would have to take a look at it in person. I personally do not like purchasing salvage title vehicles but not sure if anyone else has any input. Seems like a good price for the mileage it has. Maybe have a body shop guy go with you to take a look at it?

Maybe even a mechanic too to check for the engine light that is on

he said it might need a new transmission. But "I think the sensor is wrong cause its keeping the car from shifting and sometimes it drives normal"

What would labor be on a transmission? I can find one for $850 online.

I have no idea what it would costs for the tranny replacement maybe 200-400? for labor. Ask around at local shops. By the way you posted this in the coupe forums and not the Sedan lol

Salvage title with a repair based on some obvious big front engine accident, along with being previously modded and a possible transmission problem... Why would you even consider buying this unless you had the mechanical knowledge and experience to ensure the issues with it are fixable, and you had the skills to fix it yourself for cheap.

I second this. save up a little more and find one with a clean title, and no major mechanical issues.

I don't disagree. But if I could pay $3500 for this car, put $1200 into a new tranny...I would own a salvaged G35 for $4700. Thats not terrible. Obviously there are more big IF's if something else is wrong with it. He says he put 3k into it in the last 6 months.

According to HIM:

"I've put 3k into it in the last 6 months"
Gets 24mpg hwy.
Says he found a tranny for $550 plus $300 labor but still can't afford it.
"This car is SO GOOD other than the tranny prob"
"I'm selling cheap because Monday I start a job thats 100 mile commute and gas is expensive"
"I think the sensor is wrong. might NOT need to replace tranny. it drives fine. but the sensor keeps it from shifting and it sometimes drives normal"

G35 Project Car. Worth it?

I'm looking into getting a G35. I could use your guy's opinion. I guess I posted this in the wrong section before.

Here are my notes too:

According to HIM:

"I've put 3k into it in the last 6 months"
Gets 24mpg hwy.
Says he found a tranny for $550 plus $300 labor but still can't afford it.
"This car is SO GOOD other than the tranny prob"
"I'm selling cheap because Monday I start a job thats 100 mile commute and gas is expensive"
"I think the sensor is wrong. might NOT need to replace tranny. it drives fine. but the sensor keeps it from shifting and it sometimes drives normal"

My thoughts (and very open to being called stupid if I am).

Now this is if NOTHING else is wrong with it. In my opinion to move forward..I would need:

a carfax and the story on the salvaged
the car would have to check out in regards to the quality of exterior and interior.
i would pay $120 or so to have a certified mech inspect it in case of other issues
I wouldn't pay more than $3600 cash if the ONLY thing was $1200 tranny.

At the end of the day in the SF Bay Area...comps "unsalvaged" are $8-9k. KBB is $7-8k. If I could own a perfectly running 2003 G35 salvaged at 107k miles for $4,800 I'm not sure if thats terrible.

You have to ask yourself if it is worth the extra work, time, and money you will need to put into it. Also that car can have other issues due to that accident later on down the road.

Best bet if you really want it would be to get it completely checked out by a mechanic, including one to specifically look at the tranny problem and give you a realistic and complete estimate to fix that problem.

The headaches you will go through are not worth the discount. Keep looking.
