It could. You live in an area of salted roads. Rust is a fact of life. Before I bought this, I would put it up on a rack and take a good look underneath.

You live in the frozen north, did you really believe you'd find any car with high mileage without rust?

I know that rust is defiantly more prevalent where i live, I am more just curious how serious is it? Will it over all effect the longevity of the car? As i would like to have it for a while.

The owner has agree to let me have the vehicle inspected before purchase.

He also says that he has the service history for both him and the first owner

He also seems to have maintained it well and said that he just did a full synthetic oil change, rear differential fluid, and power steering fluid changed. Along with a new air filter new brakes

I think that's more than normal surface rust.

I have more miles on my '06 and no exterior rust like that car has. Usually i only see rust like that if the vehicle has been involved in an accident and poorly repainted or someone has rolled the fenders and cracked the paint allowing water to get inside.

And you live in a "salted road" state also.

Yeah. It blows. No salt on the road yet, but it's coming.

Was able to look at a larger version of that pic. Those fender lips look wavey, like someone tried to roll them or do "something" to them. More than likely, the paint was cracked, and water got in there and rusted it all up. Hard to judge from the picture, but that owuld be what i'd look for if inspecting the car.

Replacing both rear caliper due to corrosion is common. The calipers sit low, and the lower slide pin is prone to seizing if water gets in the boot. This can happen in the north, or south though.

But those two things alone would have me on my back inspecting under the car for heavy rust. The G35 actually has a decent amount of coating under the car, and uses a lot of aluminum, so my concern (and i have experience with this) is checking out the exhaust. More than likely the heat shields are broken and the exhaust is corroded.

All just stuff to look for if you go look at this car

Well in the Ad its says that he has replaced the rear callipers,

How hard would it be to fix / replace these fender?
If the rust is not deep would it be possible to sand back and paint over?

Thanks for the all the responses BTW.

Hard to say from the photo. Can't tell if it's bubbling under the paint or not.

Well I can't see the picture but rust ONLY effects metal so it would defiantly be under the paint. From someone living just on the other side of Toronto from you rust is not something you should have with that low of Kms unless it was only driven in winter or left with salt on it for long periods of time during the winter.

As far as under the car I would focus on the exhaust as well it is the only rust on my 05 with 200k on it (midpipe)
