How much is my car worth? 2004 6MT Brembo..

Hey folks,

I'm the first owner of the car, gave it to my brother sometime in 2010 or so. Bought it new at sticker price of around $40k, I believe. Anyway, my brother had to leave the country so it's just sitting at my parents' house so we decided to sell it. I've been out of the G35 scene for a while so I have no idea how much these cars are worth now. I am looking for an easy sale. I am not looking for top dollar but I am also not going go just give the car away.

Here are the details:
  • 2004 Infiniti G35 Coupe
  • Black
  • 6-speed manual
  • 214,000 miles
  • Leather
  • Brembo brakes
  • Navigation
  • Bose premium sound
  • 6-disc CD changer
  • Heated seats
  • Mods: Hotchkis sway bars, UTR G3 spoiler, K&N air filter, splash guards,
  • Title: Clean as far as I know.. might be salvaged due to.. Err, just read description below.
  • Location: SOCAL

General Info:
  • No accidents. The car did get stolen from our driveway by my brother's ex girlfriend. Lol. We reported it and got the car back in the same condition after a few days with $32 in the glove box. I'm not sure if this made it a salvage title. I need to run the VIN to check.
  • Overall, the car is in good condition. No large dents or scratches. One of the rims is curbed.
  • The clutch was replaced recently (within 5,000 miles or so).
  • Recent fixes: Driver side window switch, professionally patched driver seat cushion, new clutch put in about 5,000 miles ago. There's more. I forgot what else. I need to ask my brother for more info.
  • The car will be detailed prior to completing the sale.

I'll add pics tomorrow.

KBB value is around $5100-5600 USD depending on condition, considering the Title is clean.

The high mileage is driving down its value. I'd start at $5600 USD (or whatever that is in Canadian) and go from there.

You will probably only get around 5k for it. If I was in your place, I would donate it. Often times with extremely low value cars like this, the tax write off is higher than you can sell it for and less hassle.

Also if you didnt file an insurance claim, then your title isnt salvaged. Police dont salvage cars, insurance companies do.

Thanks for the responses guys. As far as donating it, would that be a tax credit or deduction?

UPDATE: Might be more trouble that it's worth. I'm better off selling.

It is actually really easy, Ive donated 2 before to Vehicles for Change. Working cars for working families will help you find a local program. IRS Bulletin 2005-25 states cars donated to low-income car ownership programs are exempt from sales price rules. If your donation is over 5k, the charity will appraise it. Both times for me, the charity's appraiser is VERY generous, several thousand over what I could have sold them for. As long as the car is donated to a family and not sold, you get a blank 1098c and you use the full appraisal value as tax deduction.
