Looking to purchase my first G35. Help!

Hello,

I'm having a really hard time determining value on an '04 G35 black/black/black coupe with Brembos, wing, after market double din stereo. The interior is in really good condition. The black exterior is in decent shape with some rubs, swirls, minor dings and clear coat peel. It needs new tires all around and new front brakes immediately. 99k miles. Drives quick and clutch feels fine. Is $7k in the right ball park for a car in this condition? What should I look out for?

KBB seems to put it at $6950, but that assumes 50% tires, so I was thinking $6500 would be reasonable. With that said, it seems that some of these go above blue book so I keep going back and forth. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

You have any pics of the car?

Yeah, hard to tell without pics. Paint peeling will only get worse and is not nice to look at. A respray could cost a few hundred or over $1000. New tires are $7-$800 for good quality. New brakes can be anywhere from $500-$1000+ depending on what rotors and pads you go with. So you're already at $10K. Check the gearbox as well both in cold and warm operating temps, make sure all gears go in without grinding. A slight notch is normal for this transmission but there should be little resistance and no gear clashes when changing gear both up and down.

I agree with Nemesis, the price sounds decent but you have to plan on spending some money on stuff the car really needs. The paint on G35's sucks as it is so plan on a painting or even doing a wrap on it if that's your thing. Don't skimp on tires either. If it has a decent DD with OEM DD faceplate, that saved you some money there. Also consider you'll probably end up wanting to upgrade your headlights to projector lights that came on 2006's.

Agreed with the above posting. I'd definitely get the vehicle inspected to get a second opinion to make sure that that's all it needs. You don't want to have any surprises. I just bought a 07 g35s and drove it for a day. Service light came on later on. Turns out I may need crank shaft sensors which aren't cheap. Fortunately I know the guy and he's taking care of it, but if it was private party I would've been screwed.

That is why an inspection by an Infiniti dealer is a must to make sure there are not any stored codes, amongst other things. Coincidence the service lights came on, previous owner probably cleared the codes hoping they don't come back on until much later where he can tell you 'it wasn't there before'. If you haven't done so, take it to Infiniti to make sure there are not any other underlying problems waiting to popup.

Crankshaft sensors are FAR from an expensive problem

Ya well like I said in the previous post. Fortunately it's being taken care of my the mechanic and I'm not stuck paying for it. If it was a private party purchase then yes screwed is the word

I'd start at $5500 and work your way from there.

At around 100k miles you're looking at possibly replacing suspension parts, fluid changes, tune-up, etc. Plus the things you mentioned.

I'd pay no more than $6k for the car if everything checks out. Remember its almost a 12yr old car..
