I've had my 5at G in Chicago for the last 3 weeks and love it.
You can geet some good upgrades for the 5at too, valve body torque converter, etc. the Manumatic is a good time. A few upgrades under the hood and your 5at will be at the 6mt numbers.

No regrets at all. Especially after I read about the clutch/tranny gripes with the 6MT.

I still hesistate, because I don't know if I should get 5AT.
I currently own manual vehicle, and I honestly can't stand
when it comes to bumper to bumper traffic.
I hate it SO badly, that I wish I could get out of the car and walk.
Then again, when you are at drag strip, or just cruising without
traffic, its blast to drive.
Honestly, I think in my scale, 5AT's daily drivability is outweighing
6MT's fun-to-drive factor. but I mean, its nothing decided yet.
This has been such HUGE headache for me for past few days!
Ahhhh.. I need some help from actual owners here.
Any g35 owners want to drop some lines?
anyone gone from 5AT to 6MT? (I honestly hope not. lol )
Get a 2000 to 3000 dollar beater car for traffic. Get the 6MT!Originally Posted by lux.g35

If i was using the car for the commute, I'd get the 5AT.
I hate driving MT to work and back. MT's are for weekend fun.
I have a Civic that's an AT for the commute.

I have a 5AT, I wouldn't mind a 6speed manual at all. But, I see a lot more manual transmissions being replaced than 5AT's. To have one of each would be the best of both worlds.......
I have an AT and it's my daily driver i think it's great...Now I did take it on a rally with some of the Houston members this past weekend and granted it wasn't as quick as the 6MTs in the group but i don't care besides i got it to 120mph i think i'm happy
....Also, I like the comfort of relaxing during traffic and not having to up shift and down shift...

I like the 5AT- It is still fun to driver in MM. At firstI thought that having a 6MT would be nbetter. I am actually happy that I got the 5AT seeing all tyhe issues with the 6MT tranny, and considering how fun the 5AT is to drive..

i drove the the 2003-2004 AT loaners and they were pretty boring.. when I drove the 2005 loaner, it was a much better drive over all. rev-matching auto tranny is pretty cool but i would never trade it for my 6mt. auto tranny still shifts slow in manual mode. I like being in control of the car.

Keep in mind that the 6mt is a grand cheaper than an equally equipped 5at
Reading through all the responses, it makes me think about how spoiled we are in this country. Where I come from traffic is so bad that a 20 mile commute takes 2 hours, and people have only one choice as far as transmission. It's called standard.

I own a 5AT, and thought about trading in for a 6MT. After test driving the 6MT, I've realized the auto is for me. I love the ability to drive in traffic without roadrage, but yet being able to smack the stick to the right and be in control of every gear. I love the automatic downshift once I mash the pedal, and I love downshifting whenever I want.
Automatic transmissions of yester-year left a bad rep for these new cars...especially the G35. These new cars DO NOT have the automatics of your old car, they're made to perform! Some new automatics shift faster than manual tranny's. When I tell someone it's an auto, they sound like they're dissappointed...They'll be dissappointed when this "automatic" hands their a$$ to them!
