Question Tell me about the G35...

Hey guys, first of all i'd like to say this is a really neat forum, lots off good information here it seems. Anyhow, as i'm the car guy of the house, my mom asked me to look at sports cars now that she's totaled her minivan I must say i have always loved the looks of the G35c's, and I was wondering if you guys could tell me a little bit about them. Any major problems/flaws? performance numbers? (those would be for me heheh) We're thinking about getting a used six speed. Any problems with the engine / trans? As it will be a used car and a daily driver, we'd like to know how reliable these cars are, and how much for repairs compared to similarly priced cars. One last thing: is there a model year which is better than the rest, or are they pretty much the same? Your help is much appreciated, and i hope to be coming back here far too often

05 is better for your needs likely if it isn't going to be tracked. If you are considering tracking it I would jump for an 03/04 with brembos (These come on all 03/04 6mt's). 05 has some interior improvments and the brakepads last longer. It has 18 more hp, but for all intents and purposes times are identical (low 14's in the 1/4 mile). Some people have had problems with the syncros going in the trannies, specifically 03/04. This will be covered under warrenty assuming the car still has warrenty, or may have already been done (I would look into this if I were you). The only thing I can think of right off as a flaw is the placement of the seat controls, my right leg starts to feel weird after about 4 hrs of driving, which obviously would not occur much.

I hate to break this to you but the G35 isn't a sports car. If you mom wants a sports car, go to a Corvette or Porsche forum. I'm sure your mom would love either a 996 TT or a C6 Z06. Now those are sports cars.

Ahem. Sporty Car. She needs usable back seats without a 70k price tag. I assumed that since the G35 has 350z underpinnings, it was *almost* a sports car. Am i wrong? Is the G35 a rebadged sentra? Is it impossible to ask for some positive feedback on a car enthusiast forum? Anyhow, thanks for the advice Pwoz

TachItUp writes with ruffled feathers.

There's a BIG differance between a sporty car and a sports car.

Please tell your mom NOT to buy a G35 coupe. She sounds like a very careless driver and it's a shame to have a G35 totalled. Tell her to get a Honda instead.

A pregnant 16 year old ran a redlight and Tboned my mother. She's a decent driver (for a woman)

And I'm aware a G35 isnt a sentra, but a 350z(kinda-sorta)

eek. how low is LOW? I was thinking since it is a V6, albeit a performance V6, it would get decent (20+) mpg. I was hoping to find a 03-04 for mid-$20s, and this seems like the ideal fun/rwd 4 passenger car. I'd rather drive this every once in a while than a Solara or Sebring..ugh

Mid-$20's may be tough. Not sure tho.

The coupe is good at a lot of things, but not very good at any one thing. I think it would be perfect for your mom. For you as well. I think you would be able to find one around that price range. I found mine at a used car dealership. I got it for $27,000 with 6,000 miles on it. By the way I have a 03 coupe 6sp. Good luck.

Personally you'll want the 05 6MT (Get a NEW one now its only like 3k more). IMO the 06 has its improvements but lacks STYLE.

G35s ARE NOT FOR MOMS! lol
1. its low if u go straight down a ramp u will scratch 70% of the time
2. hard steering, pretty hard clutch compaired to some other cars, and 240-250whp rear wheel drive o.o
3. space is a big factor, shes comming from a mini van right? how is she gona survive lol

so unless the G is for you to get to work and back or something or just to mess around in.. ehh nope.. i say look into the G35 Sedan, Maxima, FX35/45, as well as the M.

the new BMW 3 is pretty nice as well.. lotta trunk space and decent power but the price range is up there.. (kinda ugly IMO - good paint colors tho)

20+ mpg if you only drive it on the highway. I get terrible gas mileage (<15mpg, mostly city), and I never beat on my car. A big V8 like a Z06 Vette will give you better gas mileage than a G35, luckily the mpg never bothered me, but if your mom drives a lot this is something to consider.
