After 3 years..I finally have one...Good Price?

Whats up Everyone. Finally leased a 2005 G coupe. Preimum, Sport Package (19 inch wheels) and Navi.

$2700 down - $490/month. MSRP was 36,800.

Good deal or not? I live in NY and purchased it in CT.

THANKS! I PICK IT UP NEXT SAT!

it's really hard to determine whether you got a "deal" on a lease without all the details (i.e. length of the lease, factors, interest rates, mileage per year, etc.). but i can tell you that it is usually recommended to negotiate the lease deal to where you put barely any money down upfront. this is due to the fact that if the car is stolen or totaled, the lease is usually terminated and you lose the money that you put into the lease deal upfront.

taxes?!?!? i've never leased before, but from my research prior, i always had the impression that you do NOT pay taxes on the car itself. however, you pay taxes on your car/lease payment each month which comes out to regular sales taxes. i recommend doing a search online because there's plenty of faq sites on leasing.

In Cali you pay taxes, but I know other states like Oregon don't have sales tax.
Some one correct me if I am wrong.

are you sure you have to pay taxes for a LEASE in cali? i'm in cali too but i've never leased before. it does seem unfair if you have to pay taxes on a car you're only basically renting. i was always told that you only pay taxes on each monthly payment.....similar to when you rent a car, there is sales tax tacked on.

Of course there's sales tax on a lease.

Whether you received a good deal or not is a mute point at this time. More importantly . . . Congrats and welcome to the boards. Enjoy that new G of yours after you pick it up.

The MSRP should be higher than 36K with your options, somewhere around 39.5k, unless its "gross capitalized cost" or sale price. In Cali there is sale's tax on a lease, there two actually, one is on cash you paid as capitalized reduction or down payment and other is on the depreciation amount which is sale's price minus residual, plus rent(interest) charge and other fees like acquisitons and titles.

2700 down must have some down payment in there, otherwise it seem high, say 750 for acquisition fee and 400 for DMV plus first payment of 490 is only 1640. Now, of course NY could be different, but it still dont add up to 2700 tho. I would read through the lease agreement carefully before I sign it.
