Some ?'s on Coupe Ownership
Hello Coupe Enthusiasts.
Background: I have been in love with this car since I opened a Car&Driver issue 3 years ago and saw the ad of the kid looking into this window... turn the page and WHAM there's the most beautiful car! It was love at first sight.
Once they reached the dealerships I waited a few months then finally went on a test drive... I was let down. Not with the power or anything... but with the multitude of sqeeeaks. (Squeaks drive me absolutely crazy!) So I decided to wait a few years till the bugs were worked out
Now I'm again looking & here is where my question(s) to you all come. Please don't stone me - I've read countless hours and posts on here and other forums.
This is the logical side of me... simply... what is the maintenance required & what other "issues" are there on the 06's if any? Specifically... have the brake issues with quick wear been addressed sufficiently? How long to they last now? Do the rotors still require replacement? Do the tires "go" on the normal/non-sport model in 20k? Or do they last 30-40,000 miles?
I am looking at a few other cars, but my heart always brings me back the the G35C.
Thanks for your input guys (and gals).

I've thought of that too... I saw the concept in Chicago & the exterior design is truly evolutionary, while the interior looked revolutionary. Not sure how close the production interior will be to the concept though.
I think the exterior will be very close... in which case I slightly prefer the current design as it doesn't seem as "soft".
Anyway... I decided I waited long enough! When they added BT for 06 and intelligent key I knew this was the right year :-)
now I just need some owners responses on stuff like brakes/tires/any other "issues"

05 coupe 6mt here.
still has rattles and squeeks, mostly when it's cold, but they are there.
have had a couple things go bad: crankshaft position sensor, had the widely known axle noise issue fixed, tires feathering/cupping on the insides of the front.
Otherwise, a pretty good car. Infiniti won't fix the tire feathering problem though. So, bleh on that, but otherwise, they've been pretty good.
I'd save up an extra 10k and buy the m3 or lotus elise if you already have a daily/commuting car. The g35 does everything decently well, but nothing REALLY great. So, if you need an all-rounder and don't care about extreme-anything, then you're making a good choice. But if you think you're going to need a track/weekend car, you'll get tired of it fairly quickly.

Wow. Is the tire wear an issue on both MT and AT?
This will be my *only* car - the other 2 are too extreme... and too much $$$ for my budget. (Although gorgeous!)
Don't flame me but here are my thoughts on other cars I am looking at:
BMW 3 - Love the drive. Looks okay. MPG good. "BUT" reliability is a question mark and the 2 dealers in my area aren't the best for service.
TL - Nice car. Just doesn't make my heart go pitter-patter. Has all the features I want/like. I used to be a service manager at 2 of the acura dealers in town, so I have a good relationship.
TSX - Fun/nice. Think I like better than the TL... but I really want a 6 cylinder this time 'round.
Lexus - Nice car. Great service. See heart comment on TL.
MazdaSpeed6 - GREAT drive. Nice looks. Feel it is a tad overpriced... most of all afraid of the massive depreciation. Love my mazda dealer though! (Have a P5 now.)
A4 - See BMW.
Soooo... G35 Coupe "wins" in all categories (except for highest quality interior) for a daily driver. (Oh - my other "concern" is mileage... but not too big a concern, hehe.)

I don't have any squeaks or rattles in my AT 2003 coupe. As for tire wear it depends on how you drive and which type of tires you end up with. All-seasons last longer than performance tires.
If you drive agressively the rear AS tires will go in 20k or less otherwise the front AS tires should last 30k+. Personally though I wouldn't worry about tires, they can be easily changed.

The G35 Coupe is the best looking car for under $37K. I fell in love the first time I laid my eyes on her. I finally saved enough $$$$ to buy my 05 black 6MT 4 months ago, and love her every second since. Have not experienced any problems, minor or major with her yet. I get a lot of compliments on how nice she is all the time. Go for it, you will be a happy G35C owner.

high performance tires, brembo brakes, can't really ask for ever lasting items.
I know the 06 dont have brembo's so not sure about the brake wear... I bought this car pre-owned not too long ago, I know the brakes have never been serviced... looks like my rotors will last me another 30k and brake pads will need replacing soon enough.
I think brembo's pads should last a good 30k and rotors 60k but they may just need to be re-surfaced.
I think tires on the G35 should last a good 25k on 18's
Evo which has superb handling and cornering had Yokohama Advans that most people burned out in 10k, I still had tread when I lost the car at 18k. I downshift alot to a stop, change tires on the track, and take it easy on public roads so alot of wear items should last for me... depends on your driving style really.
I'm not all that "in love" with the car but I think it makes an excellent reliable daily driver.
