Looking to buy an 03
I am looking to purchase an 03 g. It is fully loaded, with navi and has a manual trans. I talked the guy down to $25,000 but it has 40,500 miles. My concerns are the following, new tires that i will have to replace shortly, brake pads and rotors and clutch. How many miles have people been getting out of there stock clutch? At the price i can get the car at, should i just get it and hope for the best or wait for a car with less miles.
With navi its a good price. Keep in mind tires for this car cost $200 a piece. Brakes will be at least $200 a wheel for pads/rotors and I think the clutch runs about $800....
The G's have so far been fine past 60k, but there's not enough past 100k to tell how it does. I think its a good price for a G with navi...

You are better off getting an 04 or newer if you can afford it. The 03 was the first year so it has a few kinks. I have not had major problems with mine, but I know some people have. You could be fine going with it, but you do run a higher risk. And yes, tires & brakes are expensive for this car. Always keep this in mind.
There are not too many 04 coupes available out there. That is why i am looking at 03 coupes. What are the kinks that people are reporting about the problems?

Don't our cars have warranty until 60k miles? If yes, you have 20k miles to take care of all the problems. If you test drove the car and everything is good, and you like it I don't see a problem. Go on a highway too, past 60mph and brake, pay attention to any vibration. People complain about their '04s and '05 just as much as people with '03 I think. I would just make sure it has a remainder of the warranty. Look at tires, clutch and brake pedal, and shifter for any unusual wear, that would point you into thinking that the car was abused. Look for signs of an accident too.
THank you. Every car has issues of some sort but when you are dealing with more of a luxury car, those issues are going to be more expensive. So, i will take those things into consideration when i inspect the vehicle.
My 03.5 has been totally trouble free for a year and 4 months except some rattles that were taken care of under warranty. If you are gonna buy 03 anyway, look for 03.5 which has few updates. I don't remember what updates they exactly are or the build date... but search function should help you out there
The price seems reasonable with navi. Expect to spend about 800 for tires, 200 for brake pads, and 400 for rotors. For clutch, it really depends on how the car is driven since it really has to do with driving habits. So it's really hard to tell when you would need a replacement. I bought mine used at 23k miles and at 40k miles my clutch is not really grabbing as hard as it used to... but I bet I can get at least another 30-40k miles before needing a replacement. Good luck.

Clutch and brakes can last a very long time depending on your driving habits. Front tires shouldn't wear out too fast, and the rears if you need it you can find it cheaper. I just both 4 rears on ebay for $200 plus shipping. They were used, but all 4 have much more thread than the ones on my car right now. Good luck in any event.
I have an 03 (not 03.5) 6MT coupe with all the bells and whistles, and I have almost exactly 40500 miles as of the morning commute. I bought mine slightly used (1800 miles) for a steal back in May '03. I had to change the tires at ~20K miles, but I get the feeling that it was only because the first guy must have burned them up a little. I'm still on the original pads which still feel fine, and the clutch hasn't shown any problems whatsoever. The only work of any significance that I've had on the car is to have the passenger's side window motor replaced.
I wouldn't worry about maintenance issues with it being an 03. The only difference between the 03 and 03.5 coupes are mostly cosmetic - for example, some 03's (including mine) came with the 350Z center console, not the G35 console. A TSB came out for potential fuel hose problems, but all the dealerships replaced them under warranty and the fix was included on 04's and beyond. The 03's are more or less identical to the 04's mechanically and cosmetically, so to me the argument that 04's are more reliable is ludicrous.
The major thing to assess is how hard the car has been driven. Unfortunately it's hard to determine that in most cases, and with 40K+ miles the damage might already be done. On the other hand, you might be able to find an 03 with only 30K miles, but that car may have been driven harder than the 40K one. I would see if the guy would let you take it to a dealership (not the one he uses if possible) to get it checked out. Safest way to get an accurate feel for the quality of the vehicle.
Barring something drastic (like the car was reassembled from two totaled cars), I would say 25K sounds reasonable.

I have an 03 that I will be selling.
