Thumbs down my poor baby

About 3 hours ago my G made contact with a '97 Acura 1.6 EL
The driver made a left hand turn through one lane of opposing traffic and did not check my lane. Unfortunately despite my best braking and manuevering effort I was unable to stop in the roughly 20 feet and split second or so I had to avoid her. It was actually seems like it was all in slow motion now.

I was not hurt and my airbag did not open, and I estimate I was doing about 15 km at impact. The guilty driver of the Acura and her infant son went to the hospital for a check up. My guess and hope is they are perfectly fine. She called her husband immediately who called the police. To my surprise within about 3 minutes both police and emergency service were there expecting the serious accident that was reported.

The insurance company is sending out an adjuster later this afternoon so we'll hear the verdict soon. Fortunately I had a witness in a car in the next lane who stopped and provided me with his information just in case. Thank you very much good samaritan. He has a girlfriend still recovering from the same type of accident a year ago while riding her motorcycle.

I now have to think about a shop for the repairs and where I can get a $50 daily loaner (with tax) while the repairs are made.

I'm so sorry to hear. I hate to hear stories about negligent drivers like that I was in an accident 6 months ago because of a negligent driver and I STILL haven't been paid for my damages.. it's such a nuisance to have to deal with insurance and all afterwards. Be glad no one was hurt, the car will be like new before you know it. Hey if worse comes to worst, you'll get a brand new bumper out of it. Let's just hope nothing else was misaligned.

That friggin sucks!! Man she looks a bit dinged in. Loosing the G for a day in nice weather is just agony.. :P Well at least your bumper is not on the ground sliding. I would guesstimate about 3Gs of damage to put her back to the pristine state she was in. The real question is who to call for someone to do a really good job on the car. Anyway Good Luck.

E.

That $ucks!!
Glad you weren't hurt. Hope the lady and her son are okay too!
Cars can be fixed.
There is a busy commercial road near me that has 3 lanes of traffic each way. Near this one intersection two lanes continue as through streets and the third turns into a right turn only lane. When the light is red people stop short in the two through streets to let people turn left in front of them. I have seen the aftermath of many accidents where the people turning left don't see someone coming down the right turn only lane and BAM! I actually witnessed one where the person didn't even 'ease' across the right turn only lane. They never even slowed and they got t-boned. cccrazy $hit!

edit: just looked at your pics again. kinda looks like she has a black eye.. ouch

Damn.... that really sucks Deane.

Glad you're OK.
From the pics it looks like a new bumper is the extent of things.

On the bright side... do I see a Nismo bumper in the future???????

+1. I was thinking the same thing. If you've been thinking about another bumper, this is the time to get it. Glad you're ok and nobody was hurt.

Yikes Deane.....that hurts to look at. She was in such fine shape when I saw her on the weekend. sorry to see that...I know it must hurt your eyes the most.

As Ian says, tho, it looks like you avoided serious damage, tho I'm sure whomever you get to look at it will check the underside and behind well for any unseen damage.

Don't forget the clear bra, and paint finishing you had done when they estimate the damage.

It's good we've got speed sensitive air bags. Since you were going fairly slowly, if it had deployed, it may have hurt you.

Let us know how things go, and g/l with the insurance, loaner and repairs.

Colin.

Yikes, thats too bad Deane. On the bright side, no one was hurt and only minor damage to your G. And I would agree with the others, definitely the time for a Nismo bumper!

Thanks for all the kind words guys.

Now that I think about it things could have been much worse for sure. I just happened to driving slower, perhaps around 25-30km as I was slowing to approach a right turn to another street. Colin, good thing she didn't pull out when we were out driving.

Ian and Shane.... you guys are bad. Don't torture a man when he's down. A Nismo bumper- yikes how much will that cost me????

Shane, you're right. I almost forgot about June 10. I may have to delay repairs if the timing won't work.

Things are already delayed with the adjuster having to reschedule next week. I'm sure it had something to do with the 5:00 Friday pm appointment my agent made.

Oh I almost forgot, the good samaritan has a vintage restored Z. I was too clueless at the time however to get the year.

Shouldn't cost you much if anything if the other party is at fault.
The Nismo isn't much different in price from an OEM replacement at the dealer.
Don't settle for refinishing your bumper..
they'll try to get away with that if they can.
