Sometimes I wonder what priorities our government has

The Ontario government crushed two tricked-out Hondas into a heap of scrap metal Thursday as part of an effort by Attorney General Michael Bryant to discourage ``motorheads” from racing on public streets.
While street racing is dangerous, I would say it's a heck of a lot safer than the recent surge in gun-related crimes. I don't see the gov doing anything like this to discourage such crimes...

Have you guys seen the new law they are trying to pass?

172.1 (1) If a police officer has reason to believe that a person is driving, or has driven, a motor vehicle on a highway in a race, the officer may,

(a) request that the person surrender his or her driver’s licence;

(b) order the motor vehicle that was being driven by the person to be impounded; or

(c) both request the surrender of the driver’s licence as provided in clause (a) and order the motor vehicle to be impounded as provided in clause (b).

Best part...

No appeal or review
(9) There is no appeal or review from a licence suspension or impound order under this section.
Why don't they start playing the "Imperial March" while they are at it?
I don't condone or participate in street racing ... but this is obsurd, this clearly gives the officer way too much power. A lot of us who have modifications on our vehicles are now at risk of being 'suspected' of participating in street racing, and having our rights taken away.

I guess our Provincial government deems 'racers' a much bigger threat than the shootings, stabbings, killing of cab drivers and violence against TTC workers. I love it!!!!

I agree cracking down on street racing and stuff, but I think this is a little over the edge. My worry was that the police were going to pull anyone over that has a modified car and say, oh this is used for street racing.

Thanks Empz for posting the information on this bill.

This may cause more problems such as runners who'd rather take their changes taking off.

Wow, that does appear to leave a lot up to the discretion of the police.

And I wouldn't blame them ... because under this new legislation ... 'racing' is criminal. So I can totally see people attempting to 'run' at least that way, they have a slight chance.

To be perfectly honest, I don't think the gov. thought this thing out first.

Speaking of cops and police. Sometimes i just dont know what they are thinking and how in the H-E-L-L they got into being a cop.

It was rush hour in the morning, and i guess the officer just love to sit in this car and slow the traffic down while ppl are goin to work!!!

WHAT ARE THEY THINKING!?!??!?!?

it's strange though, every once in a while, during rush hour, i do see people getting pulled over by cops...which often leaves me scratching my head as to what this fool was doing (aggressive lane changes maybe?).

reason to believe that a person is driving, or has driven
man, anyone what to tell me if there's a statue of limitation on the "has" portion of this thing?

Officer: "well, looking at this antique 'stang, I'm sure it has been driven in a street race...lets impound it and destroy this cancer of society!"

Sigh...speaking of which, be extra cautious driving tonight, Cops are probrably on the look out, since FnF 3 is opening in theatre's today.

I found a petition for it online that shows what Empz posted. Probably won't do much now, but here it is: http://www.petitiononline.com/sect1722/petition.html
