This morning I did the Saint John Marathon By The Sea. I did the five miler since it was my first ever marathon.
My goal was to finish and still be alive, so mission accomplished. I thought I would stop numerous times for a break, or at least walk....but I jogged the entire way without stopping once. As a non-runner, I thought this was pretty good.
My official time hasn't been posted yet, but it was around 48-49 minutes. I don't think that is very quick, but hey I am still alive.

Hey Shane, way to go! Congratulations!
Good job staying on the run and not walking. I'll be searching the site for the official time.
BTW, a marathon is a set distance of 26.2 miles (42.2 km). Anything else can't be called a marathon!
I'm doing my first race on Sept. 3 since being injured in early March and it's a 5 miler too. I had a couple of great runs this week and I'm on track for a good Chicago.

I did my first one after my wife saying there was no way I could finish one. I know all about the gauntlet.

Yeah, if you're not used to running they will be a bit sore even with a shorter distance. Race the full and you'll know sore!
- two months to recovereven when well trained.
As to the full the best quote comes from Jerome Drayton the Canadian marathon record holder at 2 hours ten minutes and change. "Trying to explain what it is like to race a marathon to someone who hasn't is like trying to explain colour to a person who has been born blind"

and it sounds like you had a fast time too.......
I know from watching and talking to Deane that that's a real tough sport, and that you have to be some kind of ironman to get thru it, whether it's 5 miles or 26 miles.......
You'll be sore for a while but that's a 'reminder' of how well you did. congrats.
Deane....glad to hear that you're back on track and on the mend. Good luck with continued recovery and the next competitions.....
Colin.
