New owner of 2003 g35 coupe

Hey guys,

Just got my 2003 G35 brilliant silver coupe 6MT this past Monday. However, I've been reading up these forums for awhile now to make sure I knew everything before taking the plunge. (Thanks for the great info BTW).

I just had a quick question. I'm up here in Edmonton, Alberta and I know that I need winter tires. I hit up Tire Warehouse and they quoted me $1250 for a set of 225/50/17 front and 235/50/17 rears. They were Michelin Pilot Alpin PA2's. I called up the local Infiniti dealer and they quoted me the same price but they use the same size wheels for all 4 corners (either 225 or 215). My friend has a set of 215/55/17 PA2's from his old Atima. Wonder if these are OK? I understand that narrower tires are better for snow but what's the disadvantage? And if anyone can recommend a good looking cheap set of alloys for the winter it'd be much appreciated. Thanks.

Congrats & welcome!!

Phone Ericksen Infiniti, they have a 17" wheel & winter tire package for around $1800. Half decent looking wheel with blizzack tires.

Welcome, Sake_Yo, and congrats on the new ride.
Your friend's tire/wheel package is within 1-2% of the correct overall diameter but clearing the brembos may be an issue for you. Test fit them to be sure.

Cool, thanks for the info guys.

Erickssen offered me 17" Enkei with Blizzaks for $2500 which is too much dough for me to fork out right now. I think I'm going to go for my friend's 215/55/17 Michelin Alpin PA2's (with just one season's use and for $550/set) and buy some cheap alloys to go with them. I'm guessing the narrower tires (215) are better for the winter but worse performance wise on cold dry roads.

Tirewarehouse has 17" Speedy Scirocco for $140/piece but they're not the greatest looking even for winters. Any ideas of which other alloys clear the brembo's for a reasonable price? Thanks.

Hey - welcome to the board. Sweet purchase.

I'm located in Edmonton and ended up getting a wheel and tire setup from Harry at bigwheelz.com - he send them in from Calgary. Got them in 03, but I think the total setup was around 1800 for 17" FRD rims and Pirelli tires. Still might be cheaper to hook up your friend's rims however...

Wow, I phoned Ericksen last week and Harvey quoted me $1800 over the phone for the wheels and tires.

Really? What kind of wheels and tires are they? Joel said about 2500 for the Enkei and Blizzaks. I'm guessing he doesn't like me because I bought my car privately instead of from him.

I'm thinking of getting wheels from 1010tire.com. They offer pretty good prices and decent shipping (~$35). So in total, my winter setup should cost under $1500.

Not sure on the wheels, but the tires are Blizzaks. $1500 from 1010.com sounds like a great deal.
