I don't keep my cars outside of their warranty periods - at least not the majority of my past cars. For that reason, I do what the manufacturer recommends. i used to be obsessed with using synthetic, but it just seemed to be a waste in my case as I didn't lengthen the change intervals.
i just got my car so i plan to keep it for a while (3-5 years)...i was planning on using Mobil 1 Synthetic for the G and changing her oil every 6000ish km...or should i use regular 5/10W-30 and change it up 4000-5000ish km???

I kept my Maxima for 45 months and put 130,000 kms on it, all the while using penzoil 10-30 that the dealership used in their express lube lane (those were the days, 15 min, less than $30 and a free wash - I miss Greg Vann Nissan...) every 6000 kms. That was more than satisfactory. I'm following the same regimen with the G, but I go to the new Jiffy Lube in Cambridge and use the quaker state 10-30 that they have, but again, every 6000 kms.

Keep in mind, my driving is ideal for oil. I am about 98% hwy and rarely make short trips. My commute to/from work is 20 min/direction at 110-120kms/hr. Oh, and I don't rev the hell out of the car (I'm gettin' old it seems...)

You can't reset it or anything like that - if you don't have sensors, it will always be on. For the '06 coupe it blinks for the first minute or so and then just stays on after that. It does not ever shut off but I don't ever notice it now although I am looking forward to it going off when I put the summers back on in a few months.
